OPI Fall 2013 DS Shades: Lapis & Pewter

Hi guys! Today I have 2 new OPI Designer Series Shades for Fall 2013 to share with you! This year OPI is releasing 2 polishes inspired by granite. Both of the 2 new shades are textured polishes, they are glitter packed and dry matte with a slight texture, they can be worn either matte or with top coat if you don't like that look! I found the texture in both of these to be more visible with the eye than to the touch if that makes any sense...they were much more smooth than most of the other textured polishes we've seen this year.

DS Lapis is a deep sapphire blue with silver and blue glitter. This has a nice metallic look to it when it's matte, it also looks super gorgeous with top coat! The formula was on the thick side but I found application easy and it was nice and opaque. This was easily a 1 coater, which is always nice. I ended up doing 2 coats for my photos just to deepen up the sparkle a bit!The photos below are without top coat.

Below is DS Lapis with top coat, I love the way this looks. Top coat got rid of the metallic look of the shade and it has a ton of depth thanks to the mix of glitter OPI used.

DS Pewter is a metallic pewter grey base loaded with different sizes of silver glitter. This was surprisingly smooth once it dried down, I was expecting it to feel very textured due to the amount of glitter in it but that wasn't the case at all. The formula was thick but again, easy to work with and apply. It was easy to get a good amount of glitter onto the brush and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below, the first 3 photos are without top coat.

Below is DS Pewter with top coat, as you can probably tell it deepens up the base color quite a bit and makes it look like more of a grey/black base.

  1. I hate that these cost more than regular....but holy crap! I'm powerless against blues like that and I LOVE the textures (only the sparkly ones!) I wore Alcatraz for 6 DAYS before it had the tiniest chip!!!!!!! Few days without then few days with topcoat. Plus I couldn't stop staring at it :) Pretty sure Lapis will be popping my DS cherry ;)

  6. WOW. I'm pleasantly suprised by how much I love these. And it looks like OPI pulled off what Nails Inc had tried to incorporating larger glitter into a textured polish.

  7. The Lapis looks alot like Alcatraz Rocks... with different glitter. I love Alcatraz.... and the Lapis looks just different enough that I might get it too.

  8. Both of them are stunning! Lapis looks meh in the bottle, but on the nails... WOW! Pewter is just as pretty on the nails as in the bottle, although it looks like the glitter might be a bit more work to remove. Would love to own either or both of them! :)

I wish I were a manicurist so I would have an excuse to add to my already ridiculously large polish stash. Lapis is amazing, thank you for the lovely pics.

  13. How does Pewter compare to something like OPI Metallic 4 Life or NOPI Luke of the Draw?

I know I'm late to the party but is DS Pewter an exact dupe of Ulta excl How's It Snowin? Can you do a comparison?
