OPI Holiday 2013 Mariah Carey Holiday Collection Swatches

Happy Friday! Today I have OPI's Holiday Collection to share with you, they have teamed up with Mariah Carey for another collection! The Mariah Carey Holiday Collection is a big one, 18 polishes in total (plus a special top coat not included in this post). The collection is made up of 12 cremes/shimmers/glitters and 6 new Liquid Sand shades. The collection is really heavy on reds which personally doesn't thrill me but I feel like OPI made up with that with the glitters and liquid sand shades! If there are any comparisons you'd like to see for these please leave them in the comments.

Check out all the swatches by clicking the read more button below. Just FYI this post is picture heavy so it might be a little slow to load.

All I Want For Christmas (is OPI) is a red creme. This is the most classic holiday-ish shade of the reds in this collection. The formula was nice, it was a good consistency and easy to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

All Sparkly And Gold is a super dense gold micro glitter. This would look good on it own or layered, I prefer it layered, personally. The formula was good, it wasn't thick and the glitter coverage was great. I used 1 coat over Visions Of Love for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade

Baby Please Come Home is a metallic dusty lilac liquid sand. Because of the metallic nature of this shade it looks pretty much the same with and without top coat. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and opaque in 2 coats.

Lighting: Shade
The three photos below are Baby Please Come Home with top coat.

Lighting: Shade

Cute Little Vixen is a magenta shimmer. The formula was really nice, I liked the consistency of it and it was easy to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Emotions is a black liquid sand. This does have black glitter it but once it dries you can't really tell. The formula was good, it was a bit sheer on the first coat but completely opaque with the second. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade
Below is Emotions with top coat, it pretty much just looks like a black creme with top coat though at some angles you could tell that there was some kind of texture happening before the top coat.

Lighting: Shade

I Snow You Love Me is silver holographic circle glitter in a clear base. I love that OPI has given us circle glitter, I hope all the big brands jump on the circle glitter bandwagon now haha! I also really like how the glitter almost looks like rhinestones but they were completely flat to the nail. The formula left something to be desired, the glitter was very sinky and the base was thick and a bit gooey. Putting the bottle upside down didn't really help the sinky glitter since it would sink right back down immediately. If you try to apply it like a regular polish I feel like you'd probably be disappointed. I decided blob the polish onto a plate and then put the glitters where I wanted them with a dotting tool.  I used I Snow You Love Me over Sleigh Ride For Two for the photos below.

In My Santa Suit is a red shimmer. This is another classic red, it's somewhat similar to China Glaze Just Be-Claws but it's not as much of a foil finish. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

It's Frosty Outside is a silver liquid sand. This is also very metallic so it looks the same both with and without top coat. The formula and opacity were good, I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade
Below is It's Frosty Outside with top coat.

Lighting: Shade

Kiss Me At Midnight is a blue and silver liquid sand. This is my favorite of the liquid sand shades in this collection, I love the shade of blue and the silver glitter pops nicely. The formula was a little thick but I didn't have any issues applying it. I used 2 coats for the photos below.I had no issues with staining either.

Lighting: Shade
Below is Kiss Me At Midnight with top coat.

Lighting: Shade

Make Him Mine is a rosy metallic liquid sand. This also looks pretty much the same with and without top coat. The formula was good, it was a good consistency and easy to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade
Below is Make Him Mine with top coat.

Lighting: Shade

My Favorite Ornament is a champagne colored glitter. This is pretty dense, I tried layered it first and I felt like it was too dense to wear that way. The formula was good, a bit on the thick side due to the amount of glitter but it was easy to apply and the opacity was great. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade

Silent Stars Go By is a light pink metallic liquid sand. This is pretty similar to Make Him Mine, but a bit lighter...you probably don't need both unless you really like pink. The formula was good, it was a touch thick but easy to apply and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade
Below is Silent Stars Go By with top coat.

Lighting: Shade

Ski Slope Sweetie is a pearly white with a golden shimmer. This can be worn on it's own or layered, I tried it on it's own and didn't care for it that way so I decided to show it layered here. The formula for layering was good, the shimmer coverage was great. For wearing this on it's own it was sheer and the formula was on the thick side which made applying it a little tricky.  I used 1 coat over All I Want For Christmas (Is OPI) for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade

Sleigh Ride For Two is a dark shimmery maroon. The shimmer while visible in direct sunlight was pretty much invisible in lower lighting. The formula was good, it was a really nice consistency and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Underneath The Mistletoe is a red jelly base loaded with glitter. This was very pretty in the bottle but it kind of fell flat for me on the nail. The glitter wasn't quite as sparkly as I thought it was going to be based on how it looked in the bottle. I do like this but just not as much as I thought I would. The formula was ok, it was on the thick side and tricky to apply. You need to wait a few minutes between coats or you'll drag off the first coat. I used 2 coats for the photos below, this did dry dull...I used top coat for my photos.

Lighting: Shade

Visions Of Love is a vampy dark red crelly. The formula was good, it was a little bit patchy on the first coat but perfect with the second coat. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Warm Me Up is a charcoal base with a silvery pearl shimmer. I like this one more than I thought it would, it's a touch frosty but not to the point of not liking it. The formula was good, it was a nice consistency and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Wonderous Star is gold flecked micro glitter and small black hex glitter in a clear base. I like that OPI is giving us black glitter but I feel like the gold glitter is overwhelming so you can't really see it. The formula was good, it was opaque enough to be worn on it's own if you wanted to. I used 1 coat over Cute Little Vixen for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade
Overall, I'm not in love with this collection...it's just so heavy on red that it doesn't excite me. I wish there was more variety in the collection. My favorite is Kiss Me At Midnight, I could probably live without the rest to be honest.

Mariah Carey Holiday will be available October 2013, at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, jcp Salons, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, ULTA and ulta.com for $9.00 ($10.95 CAN) suggested retail for each nail lacquer.

  1. I dont know what it is about recent OPI collections but Im not attracted to them :(

Im mean a like reds but this is way too much. And the Snow love you polish.. oh dear :D

If I want holographic glitter like this i would buy nail art supply stuff and apply them with a dotting tool which makes it a lot easier.

I guess this collection is another skip for me :/

  3. I agree with you, Jen, too many reds! When I saw the advertisement for these colors I thought there were too many that were similar to each other. And no green? That's odd for a "Holiday" collection. Great swatches as always...you saved me some major money! :D

  4. Honestly, I'm a little disappointed with this year's holiday collection. Last year's Skyfall collection hit it out of the park, for me personally. This collection is just meh for me.

My Favorite Ornament vs. Zoya Tomoko. They look like possible dupes to me.

    Great photos as usual!

  7. I like Santa Suit and Mistletoe and the white with gold shimmery topper - but nothing i cannot live without here. The black sand is horrible! Ick! I doubt I will be picking up any from this collection and that's sad - for yrs I always looked forward to the OPI Holiday collections all yr long. I have been collecting OPI since the early 90's and they have had some stunners - this just leaves me underwhelmed.

  8. Thank you for the swatches. That really is a lot of reds and not one single green! But I really like some of the Liquid Sands. I'm wondering how Kiss Me at Midnight compares to Get Your Number from Mariah's last collection. This one seems more metallic looking. Just wondering if I need both, especially because I also have Tiffany Case.

  11. Beautiful swatches! Have been waiting for you to review these. :)
Wondering if you could compare My Santa Suit with Vegas by Picture POlish? Not sure if you have that one though.. Also Cute Little Vixen with You Only Live Twice OPI. And maybe CG I Heard That & I'm Not Lion….! :)

  12. I wish OPI would just stop with reds completely. I feel like 8484281637 reds is probably enough.

I love Kiss Me At Midnight.

  13. I love love love your swatches!! Can you compare All I Want for Christmas with OPI The Color of Minnie?
Also, I know you don't swatch Sally Hansen polishes very often, but I thought I would mention that their Xtreme Wear fall 2013 line is ALL mixed indie-like glitters. :-)

  14. Thank you for showing all of them in the same post. It's so annoying when bloggers separate them into different posts.

  15. I would love to see Cute little vixen vs OPI embarca dare ya from the SF collection and Visions of love vs essie shearling darling? Maybe Warm me up vs essie sable collar unless you think they are way different. Thanks!! I have the circle glitter and I LOVE LOVE it, but I am only using it for placement. I wouldn't think to use this kind if glitter as a "normal" glitter polish. I have both the gold glitters and love them too and under the mistletoe but haven't used it. Waiting on the rest of my purchases on your comparisons! :)

  16. Also I am so back and forth on these sands. I LOVE me some sands, but the ones I have have holo/multi sparkle. (Hello, Alcatraz!) The few nicole gumdrops I have that have just silver sparkle I don't love as much. Hmmm.

  17. Definitely missing green!

  18. Why do I have the feeling that green is Mariah Carey's least favorite color? LOL I liked My Favorite Ornament and Kiss Me at Midnight. Otherwise... *yawns*

  19. Yeah, I don't really care for any of these.. besides maybe Sleigh Ride For 2. But it's just not very appealing to me, the Liquid Sands have chunky glitter which I personally don't like either :(.

  20. How does Underneath the Mistletoe compare with Sally Hansen Red Carpet? Could you do a comparison? I have Red Carpet but don't want to get the OPI if it's too similar.

  21. My favorite ornament VS Zoya Tomoko VS Essie Beyond Cozy please :)

That one is the only one actually tempting me. It's a pretty nice collection but nothing groundbreaking and I already own way too much polish so I'll be trying to skip it...except MFO perhaps :)

  22. I don't own that polish, sorry

  23. I love some of them but I also thought there was going to be more variety in this collection. I would like to see a comparison between "In my Santa Suit" with "The Spy Who Loved Me" and "Visions of Love" with "Skyfall". Thank you :)

  24. I got Underneath The Mistletoe and feel the same way. I wish so much it was more sparkly. I couldn't resist I Snow You Love Me. I used it the same way you did and loved it! I also used it with another holo silver glitter in a layering and loved that too. It definitely needs a little help but the glitter is so sparkly, so pretty...totally worth it if you don't mind giving it a little extra love when applying. The Liquid Sands look nice 'n sparkly but...meh. I'm just not that into this collection. If it wasn't at my local nail supply I wouldn't have gotten any of them.

  25. I just picked up Warm Me Up today at CosmoProf. They did not have all the shades listed here, they only had 8 shades, strange..(they had double rows of the shades they had in stock on the holiday display rack), which is why I thought it was strange, so I went online to look and see i they had more colors, and lo and behold, they do. But I agree, I did not see anything special this collection, and there are a lot of dupes of many of these shades out there. But the big thing for me is I am not a fan of the chunky glitter, though, and there are a lot in this collection. Even though I am not really a fan of green nail polish, it would still have been nice to see a nice emerald green or something for those that do, as opposed to so many chunky glitters and reds and shades that are already out there. But I guess to some that is Holiday=red and glittery. Just for variety, though, it would have been nice to have seen some unique shades.

  27. Can you compare Underneath the Mistletoe with OPI The One that got away and You only live twice? Also could you compare My Santa Suit with Die another Day and The spy who loved me?
