Essie Winter 2013 Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Today I have Essie's Winter 2013 Collection to share with you! Essie is doing a whole lot for Winter/Holiday this year...other than this collection they have at least 2 others that I know of (Encrusted Treasures and LuxeEffects) I don't have the other 2 collections in my hot little hands yet but I'm on the lookout for them. If there are any comparisons you'd like to see for these make sure to leave them in the comments!

Mind Your Mittens is a dark teal blue. This is pretty dark but I could still tell it was blue out in direct light, it lower lighting it did look black. I believe there have been some labeling issues with this shade and Parka Perfect...I've seen some swatches of this one being called Parka Perfect. Not sure which is right so I'm going based off how my bottles are labelled. The formula was good and almost crelly like, it was a little patchy on the first coat but perfect with the second coat. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Parka Perfect is a light blue/grey with a very subtle silver shimmer. The shimmer was pretty hidden, even in direct sunlight, but it's there. The formula was really nice, I loved the consistency and it wasn't streaky at all. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Sable Collar is a reddish brown base with a beautiful reddish shimmer throughout. I love this one, it's so rich looking and the shimmer is nice and strong most of the time (in low light it's not visible). The formula was good, it was nice and opaque. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Shearling Darling is a dark red creme. This went on a bit darker than I expected based on the bottle, luckily it's not so dark that it looked black though. The formula was ok, like Mind Your Mittens it was slightly crelly like. I did have have some issues with the first coat wanting to drag off so it's best to wait a few minutes between coats for this one. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

Toggle To The Top is a dark raspberry packed with glitter and shimmer. This is my favorite of the collection, and one of my favorite Essie polishes in a long time. The color just looks so luxurious, I'll probably be wearing this quite a bit for the holidays this year. The formula was perfection, super opaque and easy to apply. If you're careful it could be a one coater, I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade

Warm & Toasty Turtleneck is a dusty lavender creme. Not the most unique shade but it's the kind of purple I always gravitate towards because of how flattering it is on the nail. The formula was fantastic, I loved the consistency. It was nice and buttery, very easy to apply and not streaky. I used 2 coats for the photos below, both photos are in natural sunlight.

The Essie Winter Collection should be available now, I've seen it at Ulta near me. Each polish retails for $8. You can also find these online! My picks are Toggle To The Top and Sable Collar!

  1. Oooh I love this collection! I'd definitely like to see Sable Collar up against OPI's I Knead Sourdough, they looked really similar in the bottles at the store.

  3. Great swatches as always! I'd like to see a comparison between Sable Collar and OPI's Muir Muir On The Wall. I've got Muir Muir and I'm wondering should I get Sable Collar also or is it too similar :)

  13. I would love to see the dark teal one (whatever it's called lol) compared to essie go overboard and opi ski teal we drop? And the light blue one to essie bikini so teeny? Lastly shearling darling to opi visions of love from the Mariah Carey collection! Thanks! You are killing me putting the OPI's till Friday!! ;) I heart your swatches the best ;)

  16. parka perfect looks gorgeous. I'd be curious to see a comparaison with China Glaze Sea Spray. My guess is parka perfect is a bit more green, but stil i'm wondering if it's worth to have them both.

I also love vamp colors like Shearling Darling, but i'm afraid I already have too many (but can we have too many?) Maybe Essie Bordeaux is close enough.

  17. I like this collection so much, I've ordered all of the polishes in it!
Each of them is beautiful and together they make a very nice winter color palette.

  18. Sable Collar has a taupe base and is a bit darker. The OPI has more of a mauve type of base. They seem similar in pics but quite different IRL

  19. Beautiful swatches!

Toggle To The Top is gorgeous, but I can't help but wonder how similar it is to Deborah Lippmann's Razzle Dazzle or Cult Nails' Bitten. Would it be possible to get a comparison?

  20. I'd like to know too, as I also purchased Muir. It seems like Essie releases a new lavender with every collection but they don't seem to ever differ much.

  24. Do you have Essie Wicked? It looks kind of similar too Shearling Darling. I only ask because I don't want to buy the entire collection (totally enabled by this blog post) and have them be dupes.

I love the Warm and Toasty turtleneck. I actually had a turtleneck sweater that I wore in my school picture in 8th grade, and it was almost the exact same color!

  31. Hey Jen, can you please do a comparison between Toggle To The Top, Leading Lady, and Ruby Slippers? Also, Warm & Toasty Turtleneck and Parlez Vous OPI?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I just bought a Wet n Wild color called Root of All Evil that looks burgundy in the bottle but looks a lot like Sable Collar. Could you swatch them?

  38. I bought Sable Collar and Toggle to the Top recently during an ULTA B2G1 sale! (Along with a full bottle of Vested Interest b/c I loved my mini so much!)

  39. How difficult was it to remove Toggle To The Top? I know glitter nail polishes can be a paint to remove. Thanks!

  40. I just picked up toggle to the top; my formula was less than perfect and its not as smooth and shiny as yours :( can you tell me if you layered it over a color and what TC you used?? I want to love this color but I'm kinda bummed :( maybe I just got a bad bottle???

    ReplyDelete
  41. It's not layered over anything, I use CND Air Dry as my top coat for swatches

  42. I bought the cube of 4 mini Essie polishes and Toggle to the Top was in the collection. I was so disappointed in the consistency. It seemed really goopy, but I loved the color so much I kept trying. Did anyone else have this problem?

  43. I don't own that polish, sorry

  44. toggle to the top is darker i supposed
