KBShimmer Sand In My Stocking Swatches

Hi guys! Today I have my collaboration polish for KBShimmer's Winter 2013 Blogger Collection to share with you! I'll have the whole collection swatched and posted in the next couple of weeks also! My shade is called Sand In My Stocking and it was inspired by the beach. Specifically it was inspired by a snowman made of sand, because it doesn't snow here :( I was going for the look of taking the sandy snowman and putting all his colors in glitter form then stuffing it into a bottle...there are also some pops of blue glitter in here to represent the ocean! For this post a couple of my friends and I actually went to the beach and attempted to make a sandy snowman but we made the mistake of going to a cove beach and the tide started coming in so we were like OH NOES and rushed to finish him and yeahhhhh it was pretty pathetic but I'll post it at the end of the post so you can have a good laugh at our fail haha!

Sand In My Stocking is not a typical holiday shade and it can really translate into any season depending on what you layer it with. It's packed with small white, gold, tan, grey and brown glitter, larger gold hex and circle glitter, orange hex glitter, aqua blue circle glitter and gold holographic star glitter. The different colors/shapes of glitter all represent different things, like the white, gold, tan, grey & brown are the sand and seashells, the gold circles are sand dollars, the orange hex is the carrot nose and the aqua is the water! I think Christy managed to translate what I was imagining in my head perfectly, I love how complex and glitter dense this is. Formula wise this is very glitter packed so it can be a little thick however it's easy to apply...no dabbing required. The stars are relatively easy to get out of the bottle, you don't need to fish for them to get them onto the nail. The glitter payoff is great in 1 coat, which is what I used over all the base colors in the photos below.

This post is a bit picture heavy so I decided to put the rest behind a cut, click the read more button to see the rest of the swatches!

I actually can't remember what this base color was, sorry guys :( I was trying Sand In My Stocking over pretty much everything and not writing down most of the combos.

As promised here is our sandy snowman, we named him Frederick the fail man. Clearly we shouldn't quit our day jobs and go into the business of snowman (or sandman) building. Even if the tide hadn't started coming in and ruining our plans I'm not sure he would have looked very good lol. He kinda looks like he's melting or something hahaha! For anyone wondering we didn't go steal starfish from the tide pools to stick onto Frederick (I think that might actually be illegal in California), we bought them at the craft store so please don't call PETA on me for starfish abuse :D

Also, I wanted to include a couple photos I took when we went to build Frederick. This is Moss Street beach in Laguna Beach. Laguna Beach is full of little cove beaches hidden in neighborhoods that you have to walk down like a billion stairs to get to. I like them because typically there is no one else there, which was the case when we went (thank god, no one witnessed the building of our fail man). These beaches are where I like to go to get away from the stress of my job, I always find it relaxing to sit and watch the waves. The little beaches like this in Laguna are where I love to go and why I wanted to have a polish inspired by them!

that shadow way in the distance is Catalina!

Hope you all like Sand In My Stocking! Big thank you to Christy and Jason of KBShimmer for the opportunity to be a part of the blogger collaboration collection. It was so fun seeing the polish in my head come to fruition! My polish, along with all the other beautiful polishes in the collection, will be available at KBShimmer.com on November 1st. For international ladies they will also be available at Harlow & Co on November 1st!

  3. Jen, your nail polish is awesome. It does look just like you described it ! Also, your sandman is too cute! Reminds me of Jabba the Hut, but in a nice way. And the comment about the starfish was too funny! Where you live is so nice, thanks for the pics. I'm land-locked in Ohio so I don't see the ocean much. :(

So lovely! I like it best over white polish and over blue (like you showed on a nail tip in the previous post), maybe because these colors correlate most with the name and the theme :) star shaped glitter looks very nice here, it really adds a lot to the charm of the polish.

  13. LOVE, love, LOVE this polish, Jen. I can't express how awesome this is - you always think of great and unusual colour combos and I love the concept behind this one. Great job creating a polish that can be worn year-round, too! I loved this over the grey and the brown polishes. It's the perfect topper to refresh your mani after a week of wearing neutral polishes to work. I will be grabbing this as soon as I can!

  24. By the way, how far is Laguna Beach from Santa Monica? in drive time...

  25. That you Pam <33 If you're in the OC area you have to check out the cove beach in Laguna if you've never been before. Aside from the beaches in La Jolla they are my favorite in all of So Cal!

  26. I'd say about 45 min to an hour if you go when traffic is good, should be an easy drive since you could just take the 405 almost the whole way there. Off the 405 you'd get on the 133 then take that to PCH and turn left, there are little beaches like these down almost all the little streets!

  27. Ok thanks. I guess drive time is quite relative. Last time I was there it took about an hour and a half to get from Studio City to Santa Monica Pier, which really isn't that far, right? We drove up the coast in Malibu too, which was amazing. I will definitely have to check out the cove beach. I will have a fair bit of free time to sight see. I actually might head to OC beach, because there is a salon there that is interested in stocking Girly Bits. So perfect opportunity to drop in. I don't mind driving at all.

  28. LOVE your new polish! Looks gorgeous over all the colors but I liked it over the green one (the one you forgot the name) the best. Your sand man is adorable, I wouldn't call it a failure. He's decked out in his shades ready to enjoy the beach with you and your friends! Thanks for sharing your pics. You're so fortunate to live near a real beach! I'm a Midwest girl but have family in Ventura, love the beaches there. We have do make do with lakes here, pretty but not quite the same thing. Feel free to share more pics of your 'adventures', especially with Degen. :)

I absolutely love this & it does remind me of sand. I grew up in Florida, so I totally get it! I bought this the day it was released, can't wait to get it in the mail:)

  30. I don't get to the OC much but when I was a Cali girl, La Jolla was *MY* spot!! I love your polish as well, having been raised in the southwest. Now that I'm in Vegas, we don't have "beaches" either but glitter polishes are huge GO for me. Hehe!!!

  31. That beach looks stunning, you are so lucky to have such a thing closeby :). I love your polish and the whole inspiration behind it, too <3.

  32. I had this on my Christmas wishlist and my MIL got it for me; I can't wait to wear it! My hubby and I moved to Washington this year from California and this is my first winter where I've actually seen snow and I'm loving it. But I'm super stoked that I have this polish to remind me of California. Great job with this...it's amazing!
