Holiday/Winter 2013 Collection Comparisons

Happy Friday! Today I have a bunch of comparisons for the Holiday & Winter Collections for this year. There may be a part 2 of this post, there were quite a few polishes I wanted to compare that were either MIA in my disaster zone of a stash or being borrowed by a friend.  Anyway, this is kind of a long post so I'm not going to keep blabbing up here haha! Check out all the comparisons after the jump!

China Glaze All Wrapped up vs OPI DS Lapis. These are not dupes, DS Lapis is much more opqaue the more of a navy blue...it's also meant to be a texture. All Wrapped does dry with a bit of texture but it's not meant to be one...if that makes sense. I used 3 coats of All Wrapped Up and 2 coats of DS Lapis for the photos below, I did not use top coat over either polish.

Lighting: Shade
China Glaze Be Merry, Be Bright vs OPI Polka.com. No dupes here either, Polka.com has different and more shades of glitter. I used 1 coat of each over the Knitting Wool/Jacqueline comparison later in this post.

Lighting: Shade

China Glaze Mingle With Kringle vs Zoya Ziv. These 2 aren't exact dupes but they are very close. Mingle With Kringle is maybe a half shade darker, the difference is hardly noticeable! I used 2 coats for each polish.

Lighting: Shade

Essie Toggle To The Top vs Essie Leading Lady vs Essie Ruby Slippers vs Deborah Lippmann Razzle Dazzle. Leading Lady, despite what most of us thought, is not a dupe for Toggle To The Top, it's lighter and not as raspberry. Ruby Slippers is also not a dupe, it's more red and the glitter is more golden. Razzle Dazzle is the closest polish I could find in my stash, the base color is not exact and the glitter is a little more varied in terms of size but overall they are very close and you probably don't need both! I used 3 coats for Razzle Dazzle and 2 coats for the other 3 polishes.

Lighting: Shade

I Love Nail Polish Molly vs Colors by Llarowe Dirty Diana. In the bottle in my crappy office light these looked pretty close, however they are pretty different as you can tell from the photo below! I used 2 coats for both polishes.

KBShimmer Kringle All The Was vs Different Dimension Don't Be The Santa of Everything. There have been a couple of these very festive circle filled glitters so I thought I'd put them side by side in case anyone was wondering how they compared. These aren't dupes but they are in the same vein with color and glitter etc... I used 1 coat of each over Formula X White Matter for the photo below.

Lighting: Shade

KBShimmer Myth You Lots vs I Love Nail Polish Cyngus Loop (H). I've gotten quite a few questions about how the KBShimmer and I Love Nail Polish mulitchrome holos compare...unforunately I don't have the other 2 similar sets in this post (the ILNP shades are loaned to a friend right now) but 1 is better than nothing right?!? Overall they are very comparable but there are some differences between them. The KBShimmer versions are more holo, the difference is noticeable, so if you want a more holo version I'd go with those. The I Love Nail Polish versions are more opaque so if you're looking more for that I'd go with those. Overall you probably don't need all of them but that's up to you! I used 3 coats of Myth You Lots and 2 coats of Cyngus Loop (H) for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade
LCN Home Sweet Home vs OPI Road House Blues. These two are pretty close, Road House Blues leans a bit more purple and is a little darker but it's not super noticeable on the nail. I used 2 coats of each polish.

LCN Knitting Wool vs Zoya Jacqueline. These two are pretty much dupes, Jacqueline does have some shimmer in it but it kind of disappears on the nail. I used 2 coats for each polish.

OPI All I Want For Christmas (is OPI) vs Nicole by OPI Challenge Red-y. OPI. These two looked very close in the bottle but on the nail the OPI is a shade darker...you probably don't need one if you have the other though! I used 2 coats for both polishes.

OPI Cute Little Vixen vs OPI Embarca-Dare Ya vs China Glaze Santa Red My List. Cute Little Vixen is darker than both of the other polishes in this post but Santa Red My List and Embara-Dare Ya are pretty close, Santa Red My List is a little bit more of a foil finish but the base color/shimmer is pretty close. I used 2 coats for each polish.

OPI In My Santa Suit vs China Glaze Just Be-Claws vs Nicole by OPI Keeping Up With Santa. Just Be-Claws is the oddball in this comparison, it's more metallic and foil like...it was more noticeable in person than it's appearing in the photo. In My Santa Suit and Keeping Up With Santa were very close though, Keeping Up With Santa was a touch darker but not so much so that you'd need both polishes. I used 2 coats of each polish.

OPI In My Santa Suit vs OPI A Ruby For Rudolph vs OPI An Affair In Red Square. These 3 are not dupes, despite the photo kind of leading you to believe they are. I don't know what it was about these shimmery reds..they looked different in person then I photographed them and they all looked the same -_- A Ruby For Rudolph and An Affair In Red Square while similar to In My Santa Suit were both noticeably lighter in person. I used 2 coats of each polish.

OPI Kiss Me At Midnight vs OPI Get Your Number. No dupes here either, the shades of blue are very different and Get Your Number is much more of jelly base. I used 2 coats of Kiss Me At Midnight and 3 coats of Get Your Number for the photos, neither swatch is with top coat.

Lighting: Shade

OPI My Favorite Ornament vs Essie Beyond Cozy. These looked like they would be dupes but on the nail the OPI leans more towards gold while Essie leans more to silver on my skin tone. Beyond Cozy was also much more opaque! I used 2 coats for each polish

Lighting: Shade

OPI Visions of Love vs Essie Shearling Darling vs OPI All A-Bordeaux The Sled vs OPI Skyfall. Skyfall is the oddball here, it's much lighter and more red than the others...however the other 3 are all pretty close, All A-Bordeaux The Sled is a little bit more crelly-ish and red toned but once you build up the opacity the difference is hard to notice. I used 2 coats of each polish.

OPI Warm Me Up vs Essie Sable Collar. No dupes here, I wouldn't even call these 2 similar! I used 2 coats for each!

Zoya Belinda vs OPI Tomorrow Never Dies. While these two looked close in the bottle on the nail they are pretty different. Belinda leans much more purple due to Tomorrow Never Dies having a strong blue flash. I used 2 coats for each polish.

Zoya Dream vs LA Girl Brilliant Blue. These two are pretty much dupes, it seems like Dream might have a little bit more glitter but honestly you can't tell them apart on the nail! I used 2 coats for each.

Zoya Sara vs Zoya Pippa vs Zoya Creamy. More dupes! There are some very slight differences like Creamy being the smallest bit darker but I couldn't tell these 3 apart on the nail. I used 3 coats for each polish.

Zoya Seraphina vs OPI Glitter-ally The Best Silver Ever. No dupes here but this OPI was the closest thing I could find in my stash to Seraphina. I used 3 coats of each polish for the photo below.

  2. Great comparison. Thank you! 3 Zoya dupes is a disappointment; you expect it across brands but not within them.

  3. wow that's thorough! thanks! I suspected some of the winter collection polishes to be that similar to other polishes... so I didn't get many :)

Thank you so much! Your comparison posts are allways gorgeous.
My 2 cents about holo-duochromes: I compared ILNP Mutagen (holo) to Enchanted Polish Hey Jude and they are exact dupes. Really. I don't own the other two ILNPs, but I guess they are very close to Enchanted Polish Octopus Garden and Across the Universe.

I was in no way interested in Mingle with Kringle until now - such a pretty gold!

  9. Very pretty swatches overall. Puzzled though, why on earth would Zoya name a yellow polish 'Creamy'?? IDK, something about that just seems wrong, gross even! A brand know for it's lovely feminine names came up with that?

  10. I love these comparison posts, thank you!

  11. I love these comparisons!!! I just got KBShimmer Myth You Lots in a blog sale grab bag, so was interesting to see it by the ILNP that I have. I think I will use both Zoya Dream and LA Girl Brilliant Blue on alternating nails and see if I spot any diff, they do seem pretty much the same!!

  12. You're such a star for doing this, Jen! <3

  15. As much as I don't need them, I want all of the Essie red glitters! Great comparisons :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Thank you for comparing Essie Beyond Cozy vs OPI My Favorite Ornament! No dupes!

  17. Whoa Jolt-I wanna be on you!! How similar is this to Picture Polish Shocked you think? I have that coming soon-yay! Also-you know there's. Chrome in the Gwen for OPI set right?!? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Shocked as holo bits and Jolt is much more of a neon! I'm hoping the chrome in the Gwen Collection has a good formula...we shall see!

  19. The pastel lime green glitter in Bionic is coming off white on my screen. How apparent is it in person? And how do you think Infatuated compares to Essie's Borrowed and Blue?

  20. Thank you for these HUGE comp posts, they are my favorite!! I have been lusting after Zoya Dream, knowing it was probably a dupe to LA Girls Brilliant Blue (which I already have), but you have finally talked me out of it!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! <3

  21. I love it when you do these posts. And what the heck Zoya, I love you, but why are you marketing three identical yellow creams...

  22. Thanks for the comparisons! I'm sure these posts are an insane amount of work, so I really appreciate them! :-)

Really great post, I enjoyed reading this!! That Deborah Lippmann set is really pretty and I love that you put swatches in and not just the boxes, that is endlessly helpful!! :)

  33. I *love* how you layered Meteoric over green - it looks amazing! Black 1 coaters are awesome too. :D

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'd love to see what Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree looks like with a matte coat~

  35. Oreo is so cute!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I am so glad to hear that you have a love for cats as well! I'm a big cat person, and even though Degen is adorable, Oreo has now stolen my heart as the Pet You Should Be Profiling More. =p

I love that they're secret friends. My cats are super friendly and love dogs, so it's nice to see other cats like that.

The Nylabone seems like a fun idea - I'll be checking that out.

    Thanks for sharing!

  37. How does Haphazard compare to China Glaze Creative Fantasy? They look pretty similar from your swatches...

    ReplyDelete
  38. I no longer own that polish, sorry

    ReplyDelete
  39. I really like Gild Free. Really REALLY like it. Like, I might go buy it right now LOL. I also am fond of Girls BFF, but it reminds me of KBShimmers Will Yule Marry me and so I am not swooning over it as much.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The palettes are the best :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. I've never heard of Formula X until now but I really like what I see! Great post!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I, too, shop Ulta and love it. Thanks for showing the Deborah Lippmann holiday polish set. I wasn't sure about the black but after seeing your post I went out and bought it! Thanks again!

    ReplyDelete
  43. My ulta does not carry DL :( just as well. I did fine the OPI top this set for $10 and the zoya mini sets for $6! You know I snatched that up!

    ReplyDelete
  44. At mine DL is on an end cap in the high end make up section, very hidden!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I should probably ask, but maybe not lol! I've seen it in a store before, but maybe they all don't carry it? Mine's new and kinda small but I haven't seen it at the other one I go to either. I've bought too damn much lately anyway :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. The only thing that really holds me back is the price tag...I've always thought the old sephora ones were overpriced but after they released this line, I'm just not sure. Am I just cheap or is Formula X actually worth $15 a bottle? Are they on par with the Butter London's and Nfu Oh's and all those other expensive NP brands?

    ReplyDelete
  47. I've liked most everything I've tried...Id say they are worth the price tag...though I don't think they retail for $15 here. They are in the $12 range I believe

    ReplyDelete
  48. You're so awesome. Comparison posts are my favorites, and this was a mega-comparison post. I have some of these, and this will help me to not double up.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oh yes my bad. The ones I was interested in (Zing and the other electrics) are $15 but the classics and such are $13. I think I may just get a couple or just one at that price lol.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think the twenty-two set would be the most fabulous present for someone who wants to get into nail polish more but doesn't know where to start. I was tempted by the sheer cuteness of the set, but resisted and bought polishes that would be unique among my hundreds. My favorites are Haphazard and Jolt.

  51. What a lot of work-brilliant thank you, have a great Christmas :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Such an awesome post! I love seeing more of Oreo ♥

    ReplyDelete
  53. I am dying to see a comparison post for Zoya Seraphina vs Sinful Colors Out of this World ... but I don't think you have any Sinfuls do you?

    ReplyDelete
  54. nope, sorry. I don't buy from Sinful Colors anymore
