2014 Mainstream Brand Favorites

Hi guys! Anyone have fun plans for New Years Eve tonight? I'm not really sure what I'll be doing, either packing for my move on Friday or going over to a friends house. Today I have my Mainstream brand favorites for 2014! This was a hard list for me to make for the opposite reason as my indie list from yesterday, there wasn't a whole heck of a lot from the big brands this year that really wow-ed me. Here's to hoping 2015 brings more exciting things for the major brands! I'm hoping for more interesting glitters and interesting shimmers! Check out all my picks after the jump!

2014 Indie and Niche Brand Favorites!

Hi guys! Its that time of year...favorites time! Before I get into all my favorites I just want to thank all of you for your continued support. This year has been a bit nuts, especially the last couple months. I've been struggling with actually posting stuff since I closed on my house so I appreciate that you all still read my blog when I can post! I am officially moving on Friday so hopefully everything can get back to normal very very soon!

First up is my indie and niche brand favorites. For those wondering what a niche brand is I define it as a brand that is lab made but available mostly online, like Picture Polish, Dance Legend etc. This is always such a hard list for me to narrow down, these smaller brands continue to make amazing and unique polishes with each collection. Before I narrowed this list down to 20 I had almost 50 that I loved this year! Check out all my picks after the jump! I've included links to each shop at the very end of the post!

The PolishAholic Pad- Update #2

Hi guys! Today I thought I'd post a quick house update! Unfortunately I haven't moved in yet, due to the mold and no walls issues in the bathrooms but that finally got all fixed last week so *hopefully* I'll be moving in the next week or so. Luckily I don't have very much to move, mainly my bed, desk and nail polish storage. All my polish is already at my place, I brought all the drawers over so only the actual units the drawers go in will be moved by movers! Most of the big stuff was stuff I had to buy since I didn't already have it so its already in the new house!

First up is my TV/Entertainment center thingy. I got a freakin awesome deal on a Samsung 55" Smart TV right before Black Friday, I was planning on getting a smaller TV but I couldn't pass up the deal when I saw it, I would link to it but its no longer on sale sooooo :( I have the TV sitting on a Byas TV stand from Ikea, you can find it here. The bookcases on either side are also from Ikea, they are both from the Billy line and were $40 each...what a deal! It looked a bit empty above the TV so I've hung up various sizes of circular mirrors, apparently I didn't take a photo of that...you can see them on the shelves of the book case on the right from before I hung them.

Check out the rest of the post after the jump!

KBShimmer Flakies Swatches & Review

Happy Friday! Anyone have fun plans this weekend? I'm planning on a few things, mostly building all the closet organization I got at Home Depot for my master bedroom closet, the rods for hanging clothes on were a freakin joke so I ripped it all out and now it's just a big empty space. I got a whole Martha Stewart closet thing so I think its going to look awesome once its done!I am also planning on starting the monumental task of moving all my nail polish over to my new place. I'm planning on hiring movers to get most of my stuff over to my new house but I don't trust them with my polish so I'll be making about eleventy billion trips back and forth to get all of the drawers from my Helmers and Alex's over.

Today I have an awesome LE collection from KBShimmer for ya! In case you didn't know KBShimmer recently released 6 limited edition flakies! These are only available on their etsy shop (linked at the end of the post)! I meant to post these oh about 17 days ago but man...I didn't not realize what a time suck buying and fixing a house would be...so better late than never, right?

Check out the swatches after the jump!

I Survived Black Friday Collaboration Box Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Sorry for the radio silence lately, hopefully I can get back to normal around here soon. I literally haven't painted my nails in about 2 weeks thanks to crazy house stuff :( Luckily it's all starting to come together, I got my appliances yesterday and my living room is almost all set up!

Today I have the I Survived Black Friday Collaboration Box to share with you! This box brings together Different Dimension, Glisten & Glow and Cupcake Polish contributing gorgeous holo polishes along with Nail Vinyls with 2 sheets of holographic decals!

First up was Cupcake Polish Trampled By A Shopping Cart. It's a gorgeous pink leaning purple holo with a nice formula that is opaque in 2 coats. Unfortunately my computer ate my photos of this one so you should go check it out over on Cosmetic Sanctuary!

Next up is Different Dimension Up All Night which is a dark teal holo. The formula was great, it was easy to apply and the opacity was fantastic (almost a 1 coater!) I used 2 coats for the photos below.

The last polish is from Glisten & Glow and its called  First In Line! This one is a medium purple holo. The formula was easy to work with and the opacity was nice. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Along with the polishes there are 2 sheets of shopping themed decals by Nail Vinyls. There is a silver holographic sheet and a gold holographic sheet, both sheets are full of decals like price tags, shoes, nail polish and dollar signs. I have to say, these weren't my favorite to work with, I found them to be thick and some of them didn't curve with the nail very well so they stuck up, even with top coat. It might not bother some people but for me its like an invitation to pick them off so they didn't last long on me lol!

The I Survived Black Friday Collaboration Box retails for $40 and is available from Different Dimension, Glisten & Glow, Cupcake Polish and Nail Vinyls

The PolishAholic Pad: Update!

Hey guys! Today I have a little house update. If you follow me on twitter you'll know that I've been in nightmare land with my condo for a little over a week so I think I'll start out with the good stuff first. So far the floors are done and everything in painted. Sometime this week I'll be getting my blinds in and going to Ikea to get a ton of furniture so expect that update later! I'm going to try to link the stuff I've bought when I mention it below in case you're wondering where it all came from!

First up is the flooring, I decided to go with vinyl plank flooring. I got a nice dark tone, dark floors are my favorite and they turned out seriously awesome!  Below is the spare bedroom and part of the master right after the flooring was done.

Check out the rest of the post after the jump!

Cirque Holiday 2014 Live It Up Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys! I feel like its been a while since I blogged but its only been since Friday. I intended on posting but then life got in the way. On Saturday night after cleaning the bathtub in my spare bathroom I noticed a leak in the master bathroom at my condo and on Monday morning called a plumber to come over. I showed up at my place to meet the plumber and when I walked in I could hear water gushing...I walked into the bathroom and there was a large bubble of water on the wall. Luckily the plumber showed up about 10 minutes later and was able to mostly turn off the water and fix the pipe. Overall it was a big nightmare but its fixed for the most part, other than the giant hole in my wall. I'm so thankful I got there when I did, had I showed up after work like I do every other day my place likely would have been flooded.

So yeah...thats been my week so far. In happy house news the new flooring looks fantastic (luckily it was not messed up by that leak), my couch is getting delivered on Friday and I got my gigantic tv that I'll hook up over the long weekend. Also my new vertical blinds are all ready to be installed, the guys at work made them for me and they are sitting in the warehouse just waiting to come home!

Today I have a glitter-tactic post for ya, it's Cirque's Live It Up Collection for Holiday 2014! This collection is made up of 5 super fun glitters. Not only are these pretty but 2 of them (Holo-day Cheer and 8 Crazy Nights) also have 20% of the proceeds going to City Harvest which is a New York based rescue organization dedicated to feeding the nearly 1.5 million New Yorkers facing hunger. On to the glitter, check out all the swatches after the jump!

Sunny's Body Products Seasonal Box: Christmas Edition

Happy Friday! Anyone have fun plans this weekend? I'm probably just going to be doing stuff around my condo. The floors are getting installed today along with the cable and internet, all that will be left is getting everything painted then I can move in! I wasn't expecting everything to go so fast, I thought the floors would be done next week so it was a nice surprise to have them done today (the perks of working at a place that does flooring lol)

Today I have the Christmas box from Sunny's Body Products to share with you! This box is all kinds of awesome with a range of fresh scents to bakery scents and a brand new product! I was pretty excited about this box, next to pumpkin scents Christmas/Holiday scents are my next favorite! The Christmas box will be available starting today over at http://www.365daysofcolorpolishes.com/! Not only does everything smell great in this box but the packaging is super cute, I love the owls! Check out everything after the jump!

Cadillacquer Christmas 2014 Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Well good news if you read my post the other day where I mentioned my monsters from hell in my condo (roaches), they have all been sentenced to death. I had an exterminator out yesterday to fix it all up and spray around my place to kill pretty much anything that has more than 4 legs that I don't want co-habitating with me once I move in.  For those who may worry I checked with the company about what they spray being harmful for Degen and they said it was pet safe for dogs and cats!

In other good news I have a pretty 4 piece collection for Christmas 2014 from Cadillacquer to share with you! These will be available starting tonight over on Cadillacquer's website (linked at the end of the post). Check out all the swatches after the jump!

A England Elizabeth and Mary Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Hope you all had a nice weekend! Sorry for the lack of a post yesterday, I had everything all edited and ready to write and post but then I just didn't have time to actually write up the post. My weekend was insane running here there and everywhere trying to get stuff done at my condo and whatnot. Unfortunately I found roaches in my condo (super yuck) so that was pretty much what took up my entire Sunday...after my initial melt down (like literally ran out screaming then shed a few tears lol) about it I got a pest control company to come out and assess the issue. Long story short they are coming out to exterminate the monsters on Wednesday then I have a guy coming over to seal up any crack they can possibly come through to get back in. Roaches seriously gross me out so hopefully after Wednesday I'll never see another one again! Apparently problems like this are common in apartments and condos...I had no idea about that until yesterday haha.

Anyway...today I have a gorgeous new A England Collection to share with you. The Elizabeth and Mary Collection brings up 5 new shades from A England. I was pretty excited about these when I heard of a new collection...I always look forward to new A England polishes because 99% of the time the formulas are flawless. That was very much the case with these, almost all of them were 1 coaters! Check out all the swatches after the jump!

The PolishAholic Pad, Before!

Welp, it's official guys...I am an adult now. I closed escrow on my condo yesterday and am officially a homeowner! I thought I'd show you guys a bunch of "before" photos of my condo! I'm re-doing like 90% of the place so when I'm done it will look a lot different! Right now it's in need of some major TLC, the carpet is pretty gross and all the tile looks like it hasn't been cleaned in like a year...nasty. As I go I'll probably be posting about it on Instagram and Twitter then I'll do a big "after" post here!

I bought a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom condo, its about 845 sqft...not huge but enough room for me and Degen and that's all I need at the moment...plus it was all I could afford. Buying real estate in Southern California is kind of outrageous. I was watching House Hunters the other day and a couple in Texas bough a 3800 sqft house for less than I paid for my condo...how depressing. Before I move in I'm putting in dark vinyl plank flooring everywhere except for the bathrooms and repainting the entire place!

Big apologies for the crappy lighting in most of the photos, I need to go buy some lamps like right now.

First up is the master bedroom, when you walk in the photo below is what it looks like to the left...I'll probably put my bed here. The rest of the room is long and skinny...apparently I didn't take a picture of it in its entirety...my bad. A+ for the broken blinds, good thing I work at a place that does window coverings haha

At the other end of the master bedroom is a big closet. I'm planning on leaving half of it normal and doing some kind of shelving in the other half. The master bathroom is off to the right.

Below is the entry, there is a nice big closet which I really like. When you walk in you enter to the living room/nook/kitchen...it's all nice and open!

The rest of this post is after the jump because it's a little long!

Contrary Polish Be Merry; December 2014 A Box Indied

Hi guys! Hope you all had a nice weekend! Mine was good, busy but good. I found a couch I like on Friday then I spent Saturday and Sunday going to other furniture stores to find it for cheaper :) I also made what feels like my 50th trip to Ikea in the last few weeks, with the exception of my couch I swear like every furniture piece I own is from there haha!

Today I have the Contrary Polish contribution to the December 2014 A Box Indied, the theme for Decembers box is Walking in a Winter Indie-Land so I'm sure there will be some really fun festive polishes included!  Contrary Polish's shade is called Be Merry and it's a grey jelly base with green and fuchsia micro glitter along with silver holographic micro glitter mixed in. The shimmer is gorgeous out in the sun and its visible indoors in regular lighting also, it catches the light so beautifully! The formula was good, it was sheer at first but it builds easily and was opaque in 3 coats.

A Box Indied is available exclusively from Llarowe, it retails for $50. For launch dates for the December box check out the Llarowe Facebook page.

Polish Room Inspiration Mani!

Happy Friday! Anyone have big plans this weekend? I'm praying for sun because I need to get a boat load of polishes swatched for when I move and won't be able to do blog stuff for a few days. This morning  I have the final walk through for my condo! We're going in to make sure everything I asked the sellers to fix was actually fixed. After that I'm going to a landscaping place to look at artificial grass that I want to put out on my patio for Degen then I'm going couch shopping. I swear finding a couch has been like the hardest thing yet for this condo, hopefully I find one I like today!

Today I have a bit of nail art for ya! If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you probably saw this the other day. I decided to post it here also for the people that don't follow me on those platforms.  I did this nail art over the weekend for another couch finding excursion, these 2 colors are going to be my paint colors in my condo. I decided to paint my nails with them so I could see if I liked the colors with the couches I was looking at...nail polish addict logic right there lol!

I'm going to paint my house in OPI colors! Not the polish (that would take a lot of bottles of polish) but with the OPI paint that they partnered with Clark & Kensington to make. They have a lot of great shades to choose from and my main 2 are going to be My Pointe Exactly (grey) and Keeping Suzi At Bay (blue). I'm planning on doing the accent wall in my polish room/office in the chevron pattern I did my nails with for this nail art!

For the mani below I used My Pointe Exactly as a base and Keeping Suzi at Bay for the chevrons. I used Serum No. 5 Cut It Out Nail Vinyls for the chevrons! I used the Bewitched sheet of vinyls but Serum No. 5 has chevrons on a couple different sheets!

Shade
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Pixi Matte Black Swatch & Review

Hi guys! Today I have a quick post for you of Pixi's color of the month for October, Matte Black. This is exactly what you'd think from the name...a matte black polish!

The formula was difficult, I found it very thick and goopy. The opacity was good so I only needed 1 coat but getting a nice coat was no easy task. I used 1 coat without top coat for the photos below.

Pixi is available at www.pixibeauty.com, each polish retails for $8
