Zoya Magical Pixie Collection Swatches

Hi guys! Sorry for the lack of a post yesterday, I was exhausted after work yesterday and accidentally fell asleep before I  edited photos and wrote a post. I don't know why  but I've been so tired lately, i guess it finally caught up with me!

Today I have the new Magical Pixie Collection from Zoya to share with you. This trio of PixieDust polishes features a more chunky finish and they include holographic hex glitter. Check out all the swatches after the jump!

Cosmo is silver with holographic hex glitter. The holo glitters are much more noticeable in person than in photos. The formula was ok, it was on the thick side but I had no issues with application. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Lux is light pink with holographic hex glitter. The formula was on the thick side but easy to apply, it was a little sheer so it's one I'd probably layer next time so it doesn't get too thick on the nail. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Vega is blue with holographic hex glitter. The holo hex glitter is much more noticeable in person. The formula was ok, it was thick but easy to apply and the opacity was nice. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Overall I don't really love these like I thought I would. I'm a huge fan of textures but these just aren't doing anything for me, I think they are just a little too chunky for me. I prefer the more traditional PixieDust polishes but if you like the chunkier ones these are ones you'll want to check out!

The Magical Pixie Collection is available now at Zoya.com, each polish retails for $10

  1. I'm seeing a lot of people saying they didn't like these that much, but I think they look great. Maybe if I tried them myself I wouldn't love them as much though...

  3. I was so disappointed when I saw the first swatches and this just makes me glad I held off on trying to get my hands on these. The hex glitter is just so chunky these just don't look...pretty. :(

  4. I am a huge fan of textured polish too and I love Zoya's regular Pixie Dust collections but these perplex- kind of like the new China Glaze textures perplex me.

  5. I feel the same way about these new textured polishes! I know many people are just thrilled with these polishes, but I did not even order any during the last Zoya promotion. I am glad I ordered Dot and Cole to get my free Monet. Your pixs, as usual look great. I love how you photograph your manicures in the sun.

  7. I actually really like this collection. I wore Lux last week and got so many compliments! I agree with you though that the formula is a little on the thick side.

  8. Awesome swatches as usual! Call me weird, but I've been on a hunt looking at every nail polish blog take on Zoya Magical Pixies and you guys say the same thing, "don't really love this like I thought I would", "too chunky for me" and "too thick". Reading those (and this) posts make me feel like I'm the only person who didnt find an issue with this collection. But, I do agree on Lux being sheer. As for the chunkyness/thickness, perhaps I am one of those who likes chunky glitter. I despise thick polish but I didnt have to apply nail thinner to loosen this collection. Just wanted to give my two cents on it. :]

  9. Just FYI for everyone, we swatched these on Monday night. Mary is wearing Vega and I am wearing Lux - mine is holding up okay but hers is chipping like mad less than 2 days later. We found the formula for Vega to be way thicker than Lux and Cosmo, so we are not sure if that is the cause.

  10. I really want to love these. I love love love the traditional Zoya PixieDust polishes but I'm with you I think these might be too chunky for me. Thank you for the swatches and the review!

  11. Part of me wants these because of the big chunky holo glitters, but I feel like they'd be sitting around like my other PixieDusts are.

  12. I love Zoya's textured polishes and I really wanted to fall in love with these too but I'm just not sure. I've only worn Vega so far and it was pretty chunky going on but that's kinda how it goes w/ most textured polishes. The one thing that really bugged me all day while wearing it was how it smelled after it dried. I don't know if anyone else has made mention of it but man it was strong enough without having to hold my fingers near my nose. Ugh.

  13. Very beautiful swatches as usual, love all the sparkle they've got going on. But if they're as chunky as you say then I'll pass on these. Some of my "normal" texture polishes are tempting enough to pick at when I'm wearing them, I can't imagine these staying on me very long without being picked off! On a side note, is it just me or does anyone else think polish companies are starting a trend of putting every color and color combo imaginable in the form of a texture? The thought of that makes my head spin--so overwhelming!

I really like Lux. It looks so pretty to me. Thanks for the tip on layering it. I'm sorry you've been so tired. Thank-you for the post though and, of course, the gorgeous photos!

  15. I did the pre-order for these because they looked so beautiful and I'm a huge Pixie Dust fan. I swatched them on a nail wheel using the thinnest coats I could manage. They are really pretty and super sparkly but...I wish the formula wasn't so thick. The other thing that bummed me out was the feel of the texture on these - it's much rougher than any other texture polish I've tried.

I'm going to layer them over a similar base color when I wear them. I think that will cut down on the thickness and I'll still get that lovely twinkly sparkly texture effect. They are so sparkly and lovely - I just have to make them work! *fingers crossed* :)

  17. These polishes are really not my style, but I am! most likely! older than many of you . I can see them for a special evening perhaps.. I have tried to like holographic hexes for awhile, and they just don't do it for me, although I am big fan of sheer shimmers for layering.

It seems logical to me that a base would need to be a bit thick to be able to suspend all of this glitter . If it provided a thinner base I would think that the glitter! especially the hexes would make for a rougher nail surface? Just a thought.

As always, wonderful images! I appreciate the work that you put into your posts.

  18. IDK if it would work with this brand, but here in Australia we have a chemist brand called Coral Colours and they released a sparkly "sand" polish that was matte and had a fair amount of texture, which I discovered I didn't like after buying.
So, I top coated it with two layers of seche vite and it looks amazing- still sparkly and it has this depth to it that the glossy topcoat really brought out, plus no more gritty sand-like texture.
Loading up on glossy topcoats seems to be my go-to for polish problems lol, but I reckon it could be worth a try here too- the depth you get is pretty astonishing.

  19. I agree on the chunky part - not really doing it for me either :(
