China Glaze Surprise Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Today I have the Surprise Collection from China Glaze to share with you! This collection is 6 chunky glitter toppers. I hadn't really seen much about these before samples of them arrived and I was like :O when they got here. All 6 polishes in this collection are fun color combos and feature a nice mix of regular shiny glitter and matte glitter. Check out all the swatches after the jump!

As far as formula goes it was consistent across the board. These are nice and glitter dense but I found it a bit difficult to actually get the glitter out due to how skinny China Glaze's brushes are. The best way to apply these was to fish around the bottle with the brush and scoop up as much glitter as possible then kinda blob it on the nail and spread it around. I'm sure there's an easier method but that's what worked for me!  I used that method for all my swatches and topped it with OPI's top coat, which unfortunately left some little bubbles in some of the mani's (ignore that in the photos, ugh).

Create A Spark is pink holographic, periwinkle and black hex glitter in a clear base. I used Create A Spark over KBShimmer A Touch Of Glass for the photos below.

Don't Be A Flake is black, turquoise and pink holographic hex glitter in a clear base. This is one of my favorites, I really enjoy the color combo...especially over the grey base! I used Don't Be A Flake over KBShimmer My Life's Porpoise for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade

Glimmer More is fuchsia, peach, light yellow hex glitter in a clear base. I used Glimmer More over KBShimmer Honeydew List for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade

Glitter Up is dark and light blue and peachy hex glitter in a clear base. I used Glitter Up over Zoya Dot for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade

I'm A Go Glitter us fuchsia, light green and light blue hex glitter in a clear base. This is another favorite for me, I love the contrast of the fuchsia with the blue and green matte glitter. I used I'm A Go Glitter over KBShimmer Eclipse for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade

Shine-nanigans is fuchsia, periwinkle and light green hex glitter in a clear base. I used Shine-nanigans over KBShimmer Sky Jinks for the photos below.

Overall I like these glitters, I feel like they are all unique in my collection which is always nice. My only issue was the brush but oh well...I know some people love the skinny China Glaze so I can't complain too much. My picks are Don't Be A Flake and I'm A Go Glitter.

The Surprise Collection will be available wherever China Glaze is sold in April 2014, each polish retails for $7.50

  1. These are nice! I think Don't Be a Flake and Glimmer More would be my picks, although I really like the Glitter Up and Dot combo.

  3. Not for me! I think they would have been nicer with smaller glitter to intersperse in the gaps! xx

Is it bad that although I think these are fun, none of them are really calling out to me?

  8. Hmm... my initial reaction is to like them because duh, glitter. But I don't know if I would actually wear them...but the colors are lovely!

  10. Not impressed... so many indie polishes do such a better job with glitters....

  11. Do you know if it's possible to buy these online (with international shipping) or outside the U.S. and Canada?

I live in Denmark and I'm dying to get these!

Nice swatches by the way! I love your blog! :)

  15. These are a bit too chunky for my liking and something is missing for me, so I'll pass on those.

  16. I just have not warmed to 'chunky' style glitters. I still hunt for sparkle with very small hexes or circles. Just a bit is enough for me... I don't think that I will bring these home. I lmay have to hunt for KB Shimmer Honeydew (I have never bought nay KB before) !

  17. I received a bottle of the On What Grounds in my March Ipsy subscription bag, and I had the same worry. But, I did my nails over 48 hours ago, and they still look perfect. I have showered, done dishes twice, played with my dog, and there is no evidence of chipping at all. And, to keep the rough effect, I only used 2 coats of the polish- no top coat. Can't wait to see if they hold up for the next 48 hours!

I would try dabbing them on and not trying to brush them on like regular polish, that usually helps
