Orly Summer 2014 Baked Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Hope you all had a good weekend! Mine was nice, I didn't do anything too exciting....my family doesn't really celebrate Easter so I just hung out at home and then took Degen to get a new harness since the one he's had for a while was too big!

Today I have the Orly Summer 2014 Collection called Baked to share with you. I haven't really seen too much about these but I spotted them at my local beauty supply when I stopped by on Saturday to get polish remover. It's been a while since anything from Orly has really interested me but these caught me eye. All 6 polishes in this collection are gorgeous and super bright. I've been a fan of the neons that Orly has previously put out so I had to pick these up when I saw the display.

Check out all the swatches & reviews after the jump!

Ablaze is an orange leaning coral neon with a golden shimmer. In the bottle I didn't think the shimmer would shine through very much but I was happily surprised that once it was on the nail it was visible. It can be a little hidden due to how bright the base is but I could see it at the right angle. The formula was good, it was a nice consistency and the opacity was great. This did dry matte, I used top coat for my photos. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Hot Tropics is a pink toned purple neon with a strong silvery shimmer. The shimmer is very visible in this one, not hidden at all! The formula was good, it was a good consistency and the opacity was really nice. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

Lush is a sheer neon yellow base with small glitter and long bar glitter. In the bottle this looked green so I was pretty surprised to have it actually be yellow once I got it on the nail. I have to say...I kind of hate this, sorry Orly. Maybe layered over the right base it would be ok but clearly white isn't doing it any favors. The formula was not great, it was super gooey, I needed to dump quite a bit of thinner into it to make it apply easily. This is sheer, I think that you'd need quite a few coats to get it opaque on it's own and given the difficult and gummy formula that isn't going to be easy. I also had some issues with the bar glitter curling up and sticking up off the nail. I used 2 coats of Lush over OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls plus top coat for the photos below.

Neon Heat is a bright neon pink. Not the most unique polish but its a great bright pink if you feel your collection is missing something like that. The formula was great, it was a good consistency and I had no issues with streaking. It was nice and opaque on it's own, no need for undies. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

Saturated is a dark but also bright super saturated purple. Be still my heart! This is the polish that caught my eye in the display. I am a big sucker for gorgeous purples like this and it was definitely love at first sight. I like how this is a nice rich dark purple but it's also nice and bright at the same time. The formula was good, it can be a little patchy on the first coat if you aren't careful but it was completely covered by the 2nd coat. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

Tropical Pop is a neon yellow toned orange. This is another that doesn't feel unique but it's bright and pretty awesome so it would be a good addition to someones collection if you didn't have something similar. The formula was great, it was easy to apply and not streaky. The opacity as great, no need for undies. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

Overall I really like this collection, with the exception of Lush. My picks would be Ablaze, Hot Tropics and Saturated. Tropical Pop and Neon Heat are also great if you don't already have a dupe!

I'm not sure if this collection has hit the shelves at stores like Ulta and Sally Beauty yet, but you can get them online at OrlyBeauty.com!

  1. Love them all, but Lush. It's been a long time since I've seen a polish that horrible...
Saturated is my favorite, absolutely gorgeous!

  2. I definitely appreciate the thought Orly put into Lush, even if it didn't turn out quite right. I think if they did something similar (with a better formula) in a different color, I would be all over it!

  3. I don't normally like yellow polish, but with those unexpected gold bars in Lucy, I think it's so unique and I might just have to buy her!

  4. Hot Tropics is my favorite. Lush sort of reminds me of fiberglass insulation. Thanks for the great pics as always! :D

Totally gorgeous! Will definitely have to check out these in person. I've always been a big fan of Orly's polish line, underrated stuff in my book. One question--can you do a comparison of Tropical Pop and CG's Sun Worshiper? I've got the CG and don't want to get Tropical Pop if it's alike. Thanks again Jen for the beautiful swatches!

  9. Tropical Pop looks very similar to my OPI The "It" Color but the OPI has a horrible formula (like most yellows). Do you think the Orly would be a good replacement?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Not really, Tropical Pop is orange.

  11. I don't own Sun Worshiper, sorry :(

  13. Ablaze and Hot Tropics are so pretty! Wow!

  14. Ablaze reminds me of Destiny (Zoya). I know its not textured but color wise are they similar?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think the shimmer in Destiny is much more pronounced but I *think* the base color might be close. I'll put those on my comparison list!

  16. oh well! thanks for the reply. :)

  17. Ooh I love all of these except for the hairy yellow one. I will have to stalk my supply place for these.

Oh OK, I thought you did. It was on your stash list. Sorry! :(

  21. Saturated looks like Sation Miss-Emo-Shun-Al or Urban Outfitters Bandeau. I have both and I still want Saturated. :) LOVE it!

  22. It probably is, I tend to de-stash and forget to remove stuff from it :(

    ReplyDelete
  23. Definitely love Hot Tropics and Tropical Pop. I might need to scope these out.

  24. I'm trying to buy less polish, but I'm definitely going to need a few of these! How does Hot Tropics compare to Formula X Hyped? They look pretty similar, but maybe the shimmer is different?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I believe Hyped is bit darker of a purple and the shimmer is more of a blue/pink color. They aren't exact dupes but the Orly would be a good, cheaper, alternative!

  26. Or even Color Club Disco Dress

  27. Oh crap. I want them all!!
I saw a comment on instagram your dog has that strange knee/leg problem. My pom had it, and I just could not do the surgery (unless I sold one of my kidneys). But, here is what helped - I never let her jump. She had stairs up to our bed and stairs up to our couch. I know, I am a strange dog person, but it really helped her. Good to hear your pup lost weight, that will help too. Good luck!

  28. Oh wow! Ablaze and Hot Tropics are gorgeous! I love the shimmer!

  29. I NEED Ablaze and Hot Tropics! :D Those look amazing and I know I don't have anything in my stash like them!!! So sad to hear of the yucky formula and general blech of Lush. >.< It looks awesome in the bottle. I would have totally bought it without a second thought - many thanks for saving me the pain!

As for the other shades...they're great but I have shades that are similar already so I'm going to pass on them. If I didn't own Color Club Disco Dress I'd be all over that purple! Thanks so much for the swatches and review. I'm going to swing by my local supply tomorrow to see if they have these. *fingers crossed* :D

  30. Yes! Totally looks like Disco Dress, one of my favorite purples of all time. :)

Saturated...I NEED it! I have been looking for a really vibrant saturated purple like this.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wow, except for Lush, I really like these. Dammit, Orly!

    ReplyDelete
  34. i like them all except lush. i just can't get with long bar glitters.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I had been wondering why there hadn't been any Orly reviews in a long time...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yes, yes, and yes! I love Ablaze, Hot Tropics, Saturated, and Tropical
Pop. I agree on Lush, though....I actually cringed a little when I saw the swatch. It looks like it would poke me in a really mean way haha!

  37. Today I came looking for these polishes, my Sally ad in hand. I think I want Hot Tropics and Saturated - I think there's a purple hole in my collection that I need to rectify.

Any thoughts off the top of your head on Ablaze vs. Zoya's Rica?

  38. Hello. I am new to having polish in my nails constantly, and I read your site a lot! Thanks for the fingerprint polish you designed, I love the sage.

After waiting for cg sun worshiper or a similar to be on on clearance, I gave in and bought it during during brown get one Orly special.

My issue is that I tried it, I love the color, but I had to to use three/four coats for it to become the color of the bottle. Will a cheap white polish help so it doesn't look so bulbous on my nail?

Also, it came out heavy, much heavier than two other Orly, any tips on that, or is mine just defective?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Also, I typed it on my phone, so sorry about the auto correct weirdness.

    ReplyDelete
  40. It probably just need to be thinned a little bit. Sally's sells Beauty Secrets brand of thinner, it's pretty affordable and should fix the thickness of the polish. White underneath would definitely help also!

  41. Is saturated dupey to opi Stockholm?

  42. Sorry but my comment section is not your personal advertisement space. I have deleted your link spam. Glad you like the polishes.
