Serum No. 5 SS14 Part Two Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Today I have a gigantic post for you of the second half of Serum No 5's SS14 Collection! This half of the collection is all kinds of fantastical mostly because it has neon glow in the dark polishes...yeah. I was SO excited about these when Victoria started teasing them. In addition to the neon glows there are also some gorgeous glitters and a pretty holo! Check out all the swatches after the jump! This is a picture heavy post so my apologies if it loads a little slow!

Flashing Lights is a shimmery silver topper. This polish is special because not only is it gorgeous layered over a nice base color but on it's own it reflects light in the dark if you look at it with a flash.  I tried like heck to capture a picture of it doing that but my camera just wasn't cooperating, if you want to see what I'm talking about check out this photo over on Instagram from mandiesmanicures! The formula of Flashing Lights was great, it was nice and dense with shimmer, I used 1 coat over Indi-Glo for the photos below.

I Gleam In Pink is a bright neon pink that glows orangey pink in the dark. Please excuse how weird my skin looks in the sun pictures of this, I had to use my iPhone to accurately capture the color and it made everything else look wonky. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and the opacity was great. I used 2 coats, plus top coat, for the photos below.

Indi-Glo is a bright blue creme that glows light blue in the dark. No shocker here I loved this one before I even saw how pretty the glow was...I need all the blues in this family. The formula was great, it was a nice consistency and easy to apply. The opacity was good, I used 2 coats, plus top coat, for the photos below.

Infrared is a red/orange neon that glows pink in the dark. This was one of my favorites in the dark...which of course means my camera was like lolno when I tried to photograph it there...rude. The formula was good, it was nice to apply and the opacity was good. I like how it's completely opaque but still looks a little squishy. I used 2 coats, plus top coat, for the photos below.

Isle Live is a pastel yellow base with all different sizes/shapes/colors of glitter. This one also glows a beautiful bright green in the dark. This was the first of the collection I swatched and I was like whoa when I went into the dark garage to snap a photo! The formula was good, it wasn't streaky and the opacity was great. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

Just Add Water is an aqua jelly loaded with different shapes and sizes of blue, green & white glitter with a subtle holo shimmer. The formula was good, it is a little sheer at first but builds easily and is opaque in 3 coats.

Krypton-Brite is a neon green that glows minty green in the dark. YAS look at that neon! This is fabulous in literally every lighting, I'd bet it glows under blacklight also! The formula was good, it was a little sheer at first but not streaky and easy to build. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

Lei Down The Law is a mix of matte neon glitter and white hex glitter in a clear base, this also glows white in the dark. This polish is LE and will only be available June-August. You can wear this alone or layered, I like it layered because it looks neat in the dark...you can see the base color a bit. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and the glitter coverage was great. I used 1 coat with top coat over China Glaze Dune My Thing for the photos below.

Off Tropic is a metallic gold with a subtle holo. The holo is on the subtle side, but its more noticeable in person than it looks in photos. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Orange You Sunny is a neon orange that glows orangey gold in the dark. This is another that is nice and bright and literally looks good in every lighting. The formula was great, it was easy to apply and the opacity was really good. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

Sand-tastic is a rainbow of multicolored and holographic micro glitter in a clear base. This is another that will look great layered or on it's own. The formula was a little on the thick side due to the glitter density so if you want to wear it on it's own you may need to thin it a little bit. I used 1 coat with top coat over KBShimmer Right as Reign for the photos below.

Solar Power is a neon yellow that glows greenish yellow in the dark. This is my personal favorite of the collection, not only is it a great neon yellow out in the sun but the glow is crazy amazing. This is right up there with Day Glow in terms of how awesome the glow is. The formula was good, it was sheer at first but easy to build and not streaky. I used 3 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

Ultra Violet is a neon purple that glows light blue in the dark. This one is a little different than the other neon glows in the collection because it has a fine micro glitter mixed in. Hopefully you can see it a little bit in the photos. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

What A Blast is a red white and blue glitter in a clear base that glows white. This polish will be part of a special 4th of July collaboration box with Polished by KPT. The other half of the box will be a thermal, I haven't seen it yet but I'm sure it's great. There will also be a cuticle oil and various charms and studs in the box. This will be available at both Serum No 5's and Polished by KPT's shop starting June 1st and it will retail for $27.50. The formula was good, it was easy to get the star glitter out and the glitter payoff was great. I used 1 coat plus top coat over China Glaze X-Ta-Sea for the photos below.

Overall I love this half of the collections, all of the neon glow polishes are pretty awesome and I also really like Lei Down The Law.

The pre-order for this collection begins on SerumNo5.com on Friday May 23rd at 12pm PST. General sale for the polishes (with the exception of Lei Down The Law and What A Blast) is June 20th!

  6. Ooo. I'm not into neons, but your swatches are making me think that maybe I *could* use a family of neon polishes... They've got to be 10x better because they glow in the dark, right?? =P

  7. "but on it's own it reflects light in the dark if you look at it with a flash.".... does it not do that if you apply it over color? It loses it's reflective powers if it's not over a bare nail?

  9. I'm not sure if it does or not, I'm going off what I was told by Victoria (maker for the brand). I couldn't get it to photograph reflective on its own or over another color

  10. Great swatches! I still want some of these since I don't own ANY glow in the dark beauties.
