KBShimmer Late Summer Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Today I have a big old post for ya of the new Late Summer Collection from KBShimmer. Not only is Christy giving us 12 gorgeous new polishes but she is also releasing nail vinyls! I don't know about you guys but I'm not great at nail art and I've been dying to try out nail vinyls so I was pumped when I found out KBShimmer would be doing some. I've seriously been having so much fun trying them out over the last week! In terms of polish they are also all kinds of great also, there are 2 new cremes, a holo, 4 glitter toppers and 5 glitter crellies/jellies! Check out all the swatches after the jump!

Happily Ever Aster is a glitter topper with lavender, white and light blue glitter in all kinds of sizes in a clear base. The formula was really nice, it wasn't thick and the glitter was nice and dense and easy to get onto the nail. I used 1 coat over Essie Fierce, No Fear for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade

Look High and Holo is a raspberry jelly loaded with all different shapes and sizes of holographic glitter. Photos don't do any justice to how sparkly this polish is in person! The formula was good, it is a bit sheer due to the jelly base but it builds easily and was opaque in 3 coats.

Mint-al Vacation is a light blue/green holo with a pretty white shimmer. This polish looks great both in bright lighting and in lower lighting. Out in the sun the holo comes out and in the lower light the shimmer comes out more. The formula was good, it was a nice consistency and easy to apply, opaque was also good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Mixed Peelings is a slightly off white crelly with green, yellow and pink glitter in various shapes and sizes. The formula was good, I did find the glitter a little sparse so you could fish it out if you wanted more. This was a little sheer but it built easily, I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade

Peak My Interest is a pink crelly with various sizes and shapes of pink, white, and dark aqua glitter. The formula was good, it was a bit sheer but easy to build. I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Periwinkle In Time is a periwinkle crelly with aqua, navy blue, silver and violet glitter. Depending on the light you're in it can lean either purple or blue. I found that out in the sun it was more blue on me and indoors it was more purple. The formula was good, it was on the sheer side but like the other polishes in this collection it built easily. I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade

Radiant Orchid is a pink toned purple creme. As you probably know Radiant Orchid is the Pantone Color for 2014, it's such a pretty shade! The formula was great, it was a really nice consistency and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Red, White & Blue-tiful is a Limited Edition Independence Day glitter topper with red, silver and blue star glitter along with smaller bits of red, silver and blue glitter. I love this one, it's so patriotic! The formula was good but it is best to dab this one on. The stars like to stick together so dabbing helps get even coverage on the nail. I used 1 dabbed coat over Essie Strut Your Stuff for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade

Scribble Me This is a multi colored glitter topper with hex, star and triangle glitter in a clear base. There are tons of colors going on in here, everything from neon yellow and pink to light blue and black. I really love this glitter topper, it's my favorite of the toppers in this collection. I love all the different shapes and it will look great over a ton of different base colors. The formula was good, the glitter payoff is good but I did find it  best to dab this on for even coverage. I used 1 coat over Essie Urban Jungle for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade

Sea You Around is a deep green jelly with fuchsia and silver circle glitter, light blue hex and square glitter, fuchsia micro slivers and a really pretty shimmer. Clearly a favorite for me...green and circle glitter...that's my kinda polish! The formula was good, it was sheer due to the jelly base but it built easily and was opaque in 3 coats.

Sweet Wave is a pastel candy inspired glitter topper with yellow, light blue, pink and white hex glitter in a clear base. The formula was good, it was nice and dense with glitter, I found it best to dab this one on for the best glitter coverage. I used 1 coat over Radiant Orchid for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade

You're So Shellfish is an almost neon peachy coral orange. This is another favorite for me, I've already worn it 3 times...once as a full mani and twice in nail art that you'll see below! The formula was good, it was easy to apply and the opacity was really nice. I used 2 coats, plus top coat, for the photos below.

In addition to 12 fabulous new polishes KBShimmer is also introducing Nail Vinyls to their line! Each sheet of Nail Vinyls will retail for $5 and there are loads of designs to choose from including chevrons, zig zags, stars & stripes and my personal favorite sheet: tribal. Nail Vinyls can be used a couple different ways, you can use them as stencils or you can use them on their own as decals. I've used them both ways and liked them each way!

To use the Nail Vinyls as stencils you just place them on the nail (after your base polish is 100% dry!) and press them down to make sure they are flat to the nail so no polish gets under them. Then you paint over them with your top color and remove them right away so the lines stay crisp.

I used the Zig Zag Nail Vinyls for the nail art below. I used KBShimmer Eclipse and applied a coat of KBShimmer Clearly On Top. Once it was completely dry I stuck on the Zig Zag Nail Vinyls and painted over them with OPI's Matte Top Coat for a fun matte/glossy mani.

For the mani below I used a bunch of the designs from the Tribal Nail Vinyl sheet as decals. I started with a gradient base of Essie Urban Jungle, KBShimmer You're So Shellfish and Essie Strut Your Stuff. Once the gradient was completely dry I picked out the designs I wanted from the Tribal sheet and placed them on the nail making sure they were completed pressed down and all the edges were flat to the nail. I did have to do some trimming but it was easy with a pair of cuticle nippers. Then I just put another coat of Clearly On Top over the whole thing and I was on my way. I have to say I LOVE this mani, I can see myself using all the different designs on the Tribal sheet a ton!

Last but not least I used the Star shaped Nail Vinyls for the look below. This mani is actually a throwback to one of the very first posts here on The PolishAholic from over 4 years ago! You can see that post by clicking here...it's kinda fun to see the progression from then to now! I was a little messy with this, but it was my first try and I'm happy with how it turned out! I used KBShimmer You're So Shellfish as my base color and KBShimmer Eclipse as the top color!

KBShimmer's Late Summer Collection and Nail Vinyls will be available on Friday June 20th at KBShimmer.com, glitters retails for $8.75, cremes for $7.50 and Nail Vinyls are $5 per sheet. For international buyers they will be available at Harlow & Co on June 20th!

  12. I'm doing my own little protest because she released these so close to the previous collection and never said there was another collection coming out a couple of weeks later. So I'm not going to buy any. I know it won't matter I'm just one person but I feel better!
