Essie Summer 2014 Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Today I have the Summer 2014 Collection from Essie to share with you! I didn't realize they had a collection this summer other than the Neons until I went into my supply store the other day and the owner pointed them out to me. Of course they all came home with me...I blame the green and blue for that, I couldn't resist. The Summer Collection is 6 cremes, 4 of them are nice brights and the other 2 are more neutral shades that you can really wear any time of the year. Check out all the swatches after the jump!

Fierce, No Fear is a medium brown creme. This is kind of a milk chocolate color. This feels like weird choice for a Summer Collection but I like it! The formula was good, it was easy to apply and the consistency was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Haute In The Heat is a raspberry creme. This is a nice juicy looking red raspberry shade, not the most unique shade but really pretty on and good for the Summer! The formula was good, it was easy to apply and the opacity was really nice. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Roarrrrange is a bright orange creme. This is a little too dark to be neon but it's still very bright, I also love the name haha! The formula was ok, it was a little bit thin but the opacity was good and I had no application issues. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

Ruffles & Feathers is a teal green creme. This polish totally caught my eye when I saw the display, you all know I'm a sucker for anything green! The formula was good, it was nice and opaque and easy to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below. I did not have staining with this but I would recommend using 2 coats of base coat just in case.

Strut Your Stuff is a bright blue creme. This is the other polish that caught my eye, you can see why in the photos. This is so bright, it's one of those polishes that puts you in a good mood when you see it. The formula was good, it was a nice consistency and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Urban Jungle is a beige-y off white creme. This is a good base shade, if you don't want a stark white this would be a good alternative. The formula was ok, it was a bit patchy and streaky on the first coat but it did even out.  I feel like I had a crappy brush in this one, it was like freakishly skinny, Essie brushes are already skinny but this one was like whoa. I'm sure that contributed to the patchiness and streaky issues. I used 3 coats for the photos below.

The Essie Summer 2014 Collection is available now, Essie typically retails for $8 but it can vary depending on where you buy from!

  1. Ruffles and Feather and Urban Jungle would be my picks! Love the teal green shade, and Urban Jungle would be the perfect base for nail art. :)

Strut Your Stuff and Urban Jungle are the best of all. But I have a feeling that this collection doesn't bring anything really special to Essie's colour palette :)

  3. I'm actually really digging that brown. it's hard to make brown polish not look bad, but Essie did a good job! It's very chocolatey.

How does Strut Your Stuff compare to Zoya's Ling from the Tickled collection this summer?

  6. I bought Strut Your Stuff last night... and the purple one that you don't have here which is part of the neon collection the other day. I'm actually wearing that one now.

  8. I have had more than a few super skinny essie nail polish brushes. I really do not like essie brushes!!! I mean it! I really wish they would redesign it. I don't know what is worse, the short handle or the super skinny bristles brushes!
    Love the swatches though!

I got Ruffles & feathers, and Strut Your Stuff about a month ago, and I LOVE THEM!!! They are just bright enough without being obnoxious

  10. Strut Your Stuff is much brighter than I expected! I may have to snag that one after all. ;) I am so glad to have you and your blog as a resource! I, too, am a member of both #teamBlue and #teamGreen. Lol! :D

  11. I impulse purchased Urban Jungle. It's a really nice off white. I really
want Roarrrrange, mostly for the name. But what do you think about
dupes? It looks more ORANGE than say... meet me at sunset. I also have
my eye on Spin the bottle from the spring collection, but I feel like I
HAVE to have a dupe for that. Thoughts?

  12. I've been underwhelmed by Essie's collections lately. Aside from Strut Your Stuff, this could be a fall collection.

  13. Hahaha, I love the name Roarrrrange!

Ruffles and Feathers reminds me of last year's Naughty Nautical, just without the shimmer - but that's practically invisible anyway.

  14. You won't believe it, but I actually love ALL of the nail polishes from this collection. I would buy them all.

  15. OH HEEEEEELLLLLLL NO!! Why'd they do that?!? I've got a bottle and a back up but trust me I'll be in Walmart later on today looking for the old formula if there's any left!!

  17. Dissappointed at Sally Hansen for this, it's been a lemming of mine for four years and now I won't be able to get it anymore. I hate the new color, really. It's sad and annoying. I hope they regret this and turn it back to its normal color.

  18. After hearing about this so much for the last week I finally went to Walgreens today and they still had quite a few bottles of the old version left so I bought one. I just did my nails and it really is so pretty! I'm glad I caved and bought into the hype. It's just so stupid of them to do this with such a popular color.

  19. That brown ain't doing it for me, but it's totally compensated by the gorgeous Ruffles & Feathers and Urban Jungle!

  21. I got Strut Your Stuff - that color is AMAZING!!! I haven't worn it yet though. Does it stain? Now that I've seen the other colors swatched I kinda want more, lol. I think I need Roarrrrange - I love orange!

After seeing your swatches again I went and purchased Haute in the Heat and I am in LOVE!!!!

But I have a question for you, in your opinion, how would you say Fierce, No Fear Compares to OPI's A Taupe the Space Needle?
