Sally Hansen "Pacific Blue"

Hi guys! Hope you all had a good weekend and a great Fathers Day! Today I have Sally Hansen "Pacific Blue" for you. I put it in quotation marks because Sally Hansen has decided to completely change the polish while not changing the name. I'm sure everyone either owns or has seen/heard of Sally Hansen Pacific Blue, it was a gorgeous slightly dusty cobalt blue creme. Pacific Blue was easily my favorite drugstore blue, not only was the color gorgeous but the formula was fantastic. It was a creamy formula that was a dream to apply and opaque in 1 coat.

Well you know good old Sally Hansen can't leave a good thing alone *cough Hidden Treasure cough* so they have apparently changed Pacific Blue to a darker cobalt blue jelly with a blue shimmer. I read about this on Nouveau Cheap's Instagram on Saturday and when I had to stop by Rite Aid to get a gift card that night I decided to see what they had. Sure enough, every single Pacific Blue was this new version.  I bought it because curiosity is the death of me and it looked pretty in the bottle. The color is very pretty but I don't care for the formula very much. This is a jelly, the first coat was sheer and patchy. It did build but I could still see nail line after 3 coats. This does dry down a little bit matte, I used a top coat for my photos below.

The new version of Pacific Blue is very pretty but it really irritates me when brands completely change a polish and leave it with the same name as a very popular shade of theirs. They did this once with Hidden Treasure and I guess the upset that caused wasn't enough of a sign to them that perhaps they shouldn't do that again. I will seriously never understand why brands do this, it causes confusion and pisses people off. I especially don't get why they would do this to a color as gorgeous and popular as Pacific Blue. Deep down I'm hoping this is some kind of quality control screw up but given Sally Hansen's track record I kind of doubt it is.

Sally Hansen is available at pretty much every drugstore, I got my bottle at Rite Aid.

  1. Whaaat I'll have to run to the drugstore sometime this week and hope that they still have some of the original formula left. Pacific Blue is easily one of my favourite Sally Hansen shades.

  2. Well that's a shame, glad I've got a bottle of the old version!

  3. Boo! I saw it on nouveau cheap as well and went straight to CVS and found one lone bottle of the formula we know and love. I snatched it up right away!

  4. Does this mean that we can't find anywhere the old version? It's nice but nothing special , at least to me. Love your blog, greetings from Serbia <3

  6. I just bought the old Pacific Blue for a friend on Friday night from my local Target - weird! While the new version is pretty, I definitely prefer the old version!

  7. Brands should stick to "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and stop changing their colors. I love Pacific Blue the original, this new one, not so much

  8. I really like the new version. but I can see why people would be frustrated that they're changing the old one. They could have kept the old one and come up with a new name or something! :P

  10. I can't believe they changed the color of this polish. I really like the original color but I guess this one is nice too. It would have been better to just name this color something else though.

  11. After seeing this on the Nouveau Cheap site, I went to Walgreens and they had one original left and the rest were this new color. A huge difference when put side by side. I'm guessing the average consumer will have no clue, but us polish fanatics will be up in arms for sure. My question is, how long before we start seeing the original on ebay for sky-high prices? People will be raiding the drugstores for sure to get the original! It's a shame companies do this. Just name the new polish something else and call it a day!

  12. This is flat out ridiculous. I actually saw this blasphemous bottle myself at CVS and had to shake my head and blink a couple of times to see if I was actually seeing what I was seeing. I love me some SH but something like this can't be ignored. Pacific Blue - the Original - is such a ridiculously HUGE and POPULAR shade for SH; why in God's name would they even THINK about changing it? Someone over there has completely lost their marbles.

  13. My point exactly! What is the logic behind this?

  15. Wow it's totally different. I mean yeah, still pretty - but not the same. Not sure what they were thinking. By the way random question...does your original Pacific Blue smell like pot!? Mine, the smell is so strong but I use it anyway because the color is so great haha!

  16. Mine does too, it's something with the blue pigment. A lot of blues smell like that! It's weird!

  17. So annoying when brands do this! Just name it something different if you're going to change it!
