Book Review: Homemade Nail Polish by Allison Rose Spiekermann

Hi guys! Today I have a bit of a different post for you, it's about a book called Homemade Nail Polish. This book is written by Allison Rose Spiekermann who is the brains and creativity behind the indie brand Nail Pattern Boldness.Allison wrote this book as a way to share how easy it is to create 1 of a kind polishes.

The 96 page book features all kinds of fantastic information like everything you could ever want to know about different types and sizes of glitter and what all the different chemicals in polish do. There are also pages upon pages of different recipes for making polishes with eyeshadows and mixing together easy to find drugstore polishes for a custom color.

In addition to countless recipes for polishes there is also a great section in the back of the book with tips for how to do different nail art looks like galaxy nails and using gel pens.

I think this book is pretty awesome if you want to give frankening a go or you are trying to make the perfect polish to go with an outfit for a special occasion. There is a wealth of great info in the book and the way its written makes it easy to follow.

Even Degen wants to learn how to make polish

AGREED! How would you compare Alpine Snow to Angel with A Lead Foot? Trying to decide whether to give this new white a try, or just buy another bottle of OPI MBSW

  5. Oh, cool! This looks like an interesting book. I think it'd make a really fun gift for someone, too. (Either the book or some homemade polish!)

  6. I was looking forward to seeing swatches of this collection. I just love Ford Mustang (not that I could ever afford driving one...), so wearing their actual color on the nails would have been nice. While the colors itself are pretty, I find them not to be terribly unique, so I'll pass on this collection. And I'm still bummed that they did not release a green shade...

  8. If only OPI weren't so expensive in the UK, I'd be all over The Sky's The Limit! Such a beautiful shade <3

  10. I was also going to say Queen of the Road reminds me of Baby Its Coal Outside. I like how it's more of a gun-metal grey than black. BICO is one of my go-to colors, even though I've had it forever!

  11. Maybe it's just me, but I really haven't been super excited by OPI's collections as of late. There are some good colors, but a lot of the time it just seems like more of the same burgundies/reds/etc. Am I wrong?

  12. What a neat book! And it's always nice to catch a glimpse of Degan. He's probably my favorite dog I've never met. I loved the video of him with his treat box a while back!

  13. They do have minis! There's a 4-piece 'Pony Pack' w/ minis of Race Red, 5 Years of Style, Angel with a Leadfoot, & Girls Love Ponies.

I was just wondering if you would be doing any comparisons...preferably with other recent OPI collections. For example: Race Red vs. Coca Cola Red vs. Red Hot Rio vs. Over and Over A-Gwen or Girls Love Ponies vs. Hey Baby. Even if some aren't very close to each other, showing them next to one another is helpful.

  15. Look at cute Degen :D he must have felt inspired! This book sounds really nice even if you wouldn't want to be an indie maker yourself. The insights must be great!
