OPI Fall 2014 Nordic Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Today I have the new Nordic Collection for Fall 2014 from OPI to share with you! This collection is made up of 12 new polishes which is made up of 1 glitter, 2 shimmers and 9 cremes. I saw this collection a couple weeks ago in a display at my local nail supply and wasn't sure about it, its very heavy on browns and purple. Now that I've tried them I like them a lot more than I expected to, I  always forget how much I enjoy cremes from OPI like the ones in this collection until I try them again! Check out all the swatches after the jump!

Formula wise these were great across the board. All of the cremes had great a consistency and were very easy to apply. The opacity was great on all 9 and all 9 were opaque in 2 coats. The 2 shimmers were also nice with easy application and full opacity in 2 coats. I'll talk about the glitter when I get to it in the post!

Can't aFjord Not To is a creamy orange. This is a little bit more muted than an orange that we've seen for the summer months so it's a nice transition into the Fall.

Do You Have This Color In Stock-Holm? is a blue toned violet creme. This was an instant favorite when I saw these, I'm always a sucker for a good purple. In person this was a more vibrant purple, I couldn't get it to photograph without leaning more blue than it was in real life. Purples, I love them but man they are impossible to photograph some times.

Going My Way or Norway? is a caramel brown creme. This is super flattering on and a great neutral for any time of the year.

How Great Is You Dane? is a dark chocolatey brown.  I love a good brown polish like this, this one is a little bit more grey toned than a lot of the other chocolate browns I have in my collection.

Ice-Bergers & Fries is a red toned brown...kind of like a milk chocolate. Can you tell I have chocolate and candy on the brain right now? I keep picturing every color in candy form haha!

My Dogsled Is A Hybrid is a creamy sea green creme. This is kind of like what you'd get if you mixed jade and mint, I really enjoy it. It's a nice pop of color in this collection.

My Voice Is A Little Norse is a holographic glitter topper. This has a little bit of a grey tinted base and the glitter has great coverage but I don't think it's one you could get opaque on its own. I really low how it looks layered, pictures don't do justice to the sparkle! I used 1 coat over How Great Is Your Dane?

OPI With A Nice Finn-ish is a golden bronze shimmer. I ended up liking this more than I thought it would, in the bottle it looked more frosty than it ended up being on the nail. There are some brushstrokes that are visible after the polish dries down but they are pretty minimal and not as noticeable in person as they are in photos.

Lighting: Shade

Skating On Thin Ice-Land is described by OPI as a black cherry creme. This is a really gorgeous Fall shade that will transition into Winter really nicely.

Suzi Has A Swede Tooth is a strawberry pink creme. This is another nice pop of color in a mainly neutral palette!

Thank Glogg It's Friday is fuchsia/wine with a pink flash of shimmer. This was another one I wasn't sure about in the bottle but I really enjoy it on the nail. This shimmer can be a bit hidden though depending on the lighting.

Viking In A Vinter Vonderland is a rich dark purple creme. Out in the sun or in bright lighting you can tell this is purple but most of the time it does look black. What I like most about this is the name haha!

Overall I like this collection more than I expected to, it is a very neutral collection. Any of the cremes would be great to add to a collection if you don't have something similar, the formulas were seriously wonderful. My picks are My Dogsled Is A Hybrid and Do You Have This In Stock-Holm?

The Nordic Collection from OPI will be available in stores on August 6, 2014. Each polish retails for $9.50 ($11.50 CAN) and you can find OPI at professional salons including Beauty Brands, Ulta, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard's, jcp Salons, Pure Beauty, Regis and Trade Secret. You can also find OPI online at Ulta.com. If you are a gel polish kinda gal these will also be available in GelColor on August 6th!

  1. I was excited after seeing the press release and even more so now that I've seen your swatches. Some don't really call out to me, but the rest of them I'm willing to try. Thank you for the swatches!

These are excellent swatches!! I like this collection even though I'm not a brown fan, I like the bright cremes scattered within. Of course I also like the wonderful formula OPI cremes have :)

  3. Wow...these are BEAUTIFUL! I'm especially loving the one with the holo glitter (unfortunately I love anything that sparkles) and the super dark purple creme. Just stunning, Jen! Excited to grab these on the 6th!

  4. Oh my goodness, I love them all! I can't decide which is my favorite, but Skating on Thin Ice-Land is up there. (I am sucker for purples.)

  5. I'm on a self-imposed polish buying ban...which I plan to break so that I can get Can't aFjord Not To and Skating On Thin Ice Land. Gorgeous!

  6. I think How Great Is You Dane? will be getting added to my collection. I am a sucker for dark chocolate creme polishes. Sadly, Essie had discontinued my old favorite. Do you remember Chocolate Kisses?

  7. Are any of the purples similar to the ones in the Coca Cola collection? I'm looking for a dark purple (I don't have any) and all of the swatches that I see of these collections look similar, are there ones you would prefer over others? Thanks!

  8. Good swatches! I think I have to buy something like 4 of these... They don't really scream "nordic" to me, but there is some interesting colors. Iäm not a huge fan of browns and dark polishes... Have to buy the one inspired by Finland, because that's where I'm from. :)

  9. These are lovely, but somehow I don't feel like anything is particularly original except for My Voice is Norse. Your swatches always make me want everything though lol

  10. Excited for this post, Jen! Thank you for bringing us the newest collections! The whole collections is gorgeous, you are right, very appropriate for the transition to Summer to Fall and from Fall to Summer!

  11. Glad you like it!

  12. I haven't had a chance to put them side but side but just going off memory Viking In A Vinter Vonderland is probably very very similar to A Grape Affair

  14. Can't say I've heard of that Essie, sounds great from the name though!

  15. Your swatches are always so great :) would you say that 'Viking in a Vinter Vonderland' is too close a match for 'Vant To Bite My Neck' to need both? Or are they quite different when you see them in person?

  16. Thanks <3 I haven't had a chance to do any comparisons yet but I'll add it to my list!

  17. Do you think Ice-Bergers and Fries and A-Piers To Be Tan are dupes?

  18. Thanks for the swatches. I wonder if Do You Have This Color In Stock-Holm is anywhere near close to OPI...Eurso Euro? I know one is a purple and one is a blue but I wonder if they are similar? Also would love to know how the purples in this colection compare to Vant To Bite My Neck? Essie Where's My Chauffeur? leans very green on me is it anything like My Dogsled Is A Hybrid?

I really like My Voice Is A Little Norse, oh who am I kidding - I like them all (except With A Nice Finn-ish is not really me)!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I don't think its close to Eurso Euro at all, its much more purple. Where's My Chauffeur is much more blue, definitely not a dupe of My Dogsled Is A Hybrid. Vant To Bit My Neck is on my comparison list!

  21. Duh! I meant Fall to Winter but you knew what I meant!

  22. Hi Jen, Can you compare Thank Glogg It's Friday with Embarca-Dare Ya!? They both look so similar from your pictures.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Do You Have This Color In Stock-Holm is absolutely a Cadburys Purple!

  24. I'll add it to my list!

Just curious, how similar are Thank Glogg It's Friday and The One That Got Away from the Katy Perry collection?

  27. I haven't had time to do any comparisons yet, I will add this to my list!

  28. Love the swatches! many of them look like we have seen them before though. Thank Glogg It's Friday might be another version of You Only Live Twice or Meep Meep Meep if I have the right colours, and Suzi has a Swede Tooth might be a match for Kiss Me On My Tulips. Skating On Thin Ice-Land and Viking In A Vinter Vonderland both look familiar from previous OPI collections too although they are lovely

    ReplyDelete
  29. If you still have it, can you compare OPI Mermaid's Tears to My Dogsled Is A Hybrid?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm not sure if I still have it or not, but I'll add it to my list!

    ReplyDelete
  31. so pretty! my dogsled is a hybrid is sort of the color of a bridesmaid's dress i'm wearing in november [on a beach] so i may pick it up to wear on my toes!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think this is the most excited I've been about a geographic collection since Germany! My favorite is My Dogsled is a Hybrid but it looks really close to Zoya Wednesday, except maybe a bit crisper?

Also wondering how Going My Way or Norway compares to San Tan-tonio?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wow! What a gorgeous collection! I think they are right on the mark for a fall set of colors.

    I'm so torn....
I like this collection but I can't help but think that the colors I like so much are basically dupes of other OPI colors that I already own....

    ReplyDelete
  35. The collection is beautiful! Is it terrible if I want all of these colors?

    ReplyDelete
  36. the most boring and non-sense collection I've ever seen. If there's a price for ugly collections this one already won it

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oof...$9.50 now? Weren't the prices JUST raised to $9?

    ReplyDelete
  38. IKR I think they raised up to 9 not even a year ago

    ReplyDelete
  39. o.O If you hate the collection so much why even waste your time reading my post about it? I get that not everyone is going to like everything but jeez.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I read your posts because I love them and find them really interesting and useful, plus you have wonderful nails. Simply, I dont like these colours, Ithink that OPI can do better. Forgive if my words sounded offensive to you, it wasn't my intention. I still think that everyone is free to express his-her opinion: I don't like that particular collection
    peace

  41. You are allowed to express your opinion, which is why I approved your comment. You can express yourself without being so rude. If you dislike something that much then just don't comment or skip the post. I'm not offended by your comment, It's not my collection so I could careless if people like it or not. I just don't appreciate people being rude in my comment section. Hope you continue to read my blog and find collections that you like more than this one.

  42. I think I might skip this collection. Thanks for posting!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I was so iffy about these color when I saw photos but your swatches are making me rethink my choice...

    ReplyDelete
  44. I only want 'Do You Have This Color in Stock-holm?'. Everything else is like, "ugh, been there, seen that

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm going to be picking some of these up at my local supply! :D I definitely will be getting Do You Have This Color In Stock-Holm? and My Dogsled Is A Hybrid. I'm also going to get How Great is Your Dane? because it's cooler toned than all the vampy dark browns I own. I'll probably get Going My Way or Norway? but I need to see it in person. I also want to see some of the other colors in person before deciding for sure whether I'll get them or not.

    Comparison requests:
    - Do You Have This Color In Stock-Holm? vs Color Club Disco Dress (a.k.a. Express Yourself from the Pride Collection)
    - My Dog Sled is a Hybrid vs Essie Turquoise and Caicos
    - How Great Is You Dane? vs Essie Little Brown Dress
    - How Great Is You Dane? vs Zoya Emilia
    - Suzi Has A Swede Tooth vs OPI If You Moust You Moust
    - Ice-Bergers & Fries vs Essie Very Structured

Thank you so much for your wonderful swatches! :D

  46. One shade I am sure of: My Dogsled is a Hybrid. It's STUNNING!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think I may get only 5 out of this collection. Thanks for the swatches!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Beautiful swatches! Skating on Thin Ice-Land is my fave. <3

    ReplyDelete
  49. Which ones? I'm looking at, "Suzi Has A Swede Tooth." It seems different, but do you know of a dupe already out?
