China Glaze The Giver Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Hope you all had a great weekend! Mine was exhausting! I build all of my Ikea stuff that I bought last week, I was so tired after that I got like the best sleep ever because I just passed out after I was done. I posted a picture of my new desk set up over on Instagram yesterday, I really love how it turned out! I built another Alex too so next weekend is going to be spent destashing, organizing and filling up the new Alex. Hopefully that means that I will FINALLY get to do all the comparisons I've had on my list for ages since I will be able to find stuff now haha!

Today I have a new Limited Edition Collection from China Glaze to share with you, this collection is for The Giver movie that just recently came out. I haven't seen it yet but I really want to! I loved the book when I was a kid, I must have read it 3 or 4 times. It's about time a movie was made from it! The collection features a lot of great light neutral shades along with a couple pops of color and a couple gorgeous glitters! Check out all the swatches after the jump!

Boundary of Memory is a a full coverage fine glitter packed with black, silver, copper and brown glitter. This is my favorite of the collection, China Glaze does glitters like this so well! The formula was good, it wasn't thick and the glitter coverage was great! I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below. Without top coat this has a tiny bit of texture but not much.

Capacity To See Beyond is a bright aqua creme. The formula was good, it was a nice consistency and easy to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Community is a brown creme. This is some nice red undertones to it and it doesn't feel as dark as some of the other browns we've seen for Fall so far. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Five Rules is a light putty type of shade. This is kind of a beige-y greyed out shade, I really like it. It's an easy to wear shade. The formula was good, it was a good consistency and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Friends Forever, Right? is a very very light pink creme. This is pretty much a pink toned white, thats how light the pink is. The formula was pretty good, it was a bit streaky but it didn't give me too many issues, I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Givers Theme is a purple creme. Another favorite for me, its such a nice pop of color in this collection! The formula was good, it was easy to apply and the opacity was pretty good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

History Of The World is a dark dusty blue/purple. Depending on the light this can lean either way, it looked a little more purple to me in real life. The formula was good, it was a nice consistency and easy to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Intelligence, Integrity & Courage is a light grey creme. This has a nice bit of a blue undertone to it. The formula was really nice, it was easy to work with and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

New Birth is a slightly blue tinted white creme. It's hard to tell that it has blue undertones unless you have it up to a pure white. The formula was good, it was a bit streaky but easy to work with. I used 3 coats for the photos below.

I got a couple questions about how the 2 white-ish shades compare to OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls. I tried to take photos on the nail but my camera just couldn't pick up the difference. Please excuse the less than stellar lighting, its the only way my camera could pick up the different undertones!

Release is a purple toned taupe creme. The formula was good, the consistency was good and the opacity was nice. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Seeing Red is a red creme. Not the most exciting shade but its a nice red. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and the opacity was great. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

The Outer Edge is a white glitter topper. I'm sure you could get this opaque on its own but I really loved it over a nice dark base. The formula was good, it wasn't thick and the glitter payoff was great. I used 1 coat over Community for the photos below.

The Giver Collection is out now, I've seen it at Sally Beauty and I've heard from others that it's been spotted at Ulta also! My favorites are Boundary of Memory, The Outer Edge and Givers Theme. I have to say I also really love how China Glaze labelled the bottles for this collection. Usually these types of collections have a sticker on the top with the name on it but this one has the name actually printed on the cap. Its a small detail but I really like it!

  1. That glitter is gorgeous. I agree that the printing on the cap is a unique and nice touch.

  2. Beautiful swatches, as always. :) I wonder: how does "Capacity to See Beyond" compare to "OPI Can't Find my Czechbook"? Thank you in advance. :)

  3. Looks like a great collection!

  4. Boundary of Memory is my favorite! It's so pretty.

  5. Love your swatch, as always, and can't wait for that comparaison swatch for all those lovely fall collections we have this year to make my final decision for my order. I guess my wallet is already crying!
I'd love to see five rule against essie take it outside. Boundary of Memory remember me an older china glaze that i love very much : CG in the city.
History of the world also looks fabulous.

For the first time, i'm thinking about getting one of these dark rich brown creme, not a color that i'm usually attracted to. Wich one did you prefer so far, color and formula wise? i'm torn between essie Partner in crime, Zoya Emilia or OPI how great is your dane...

  6. Great swatches! thank you, there are so many "nail art" friendly shades in here! Sometimes I get sick of using plain white as base for nail art, so those slightly tinted whites (and the light grey) look perfect for that purpose!

  7. The fact that the collection name was printed on the cap was something I loved also! I really think other companies should start doing this!

  8. Nice swatches! Interesting collection got my eye on a few :-)

  9. Oh, I might have to go back for History of the World. How lovely! Do you think you'll be using the white-ish shades as frequently as you do MBSW? Is it worth picking both up for the day we can't find MBSW? That's my real thought. If it works for good nail art! :)

These are some really nice colors. I am loving Boundary of Memory and Giver's Theme.

  11. I think the white-ish shades could be useful in nail art but I wish they where two coaters. You are right about China Glaze micro glitters, they always looks nice:)

  12. I'm really loving this collection! I wish the movie had gotten good reviews, since the book is so fantastic.

  13. I like the look of this collection! I've never read The Giver, but I love the names of these polishes.

  14. Yes! Or even CG Bahamian Escape? Cannot wait for your next comparison post. :)

  15. Hi Jen, could you please tell me if "Five Rules" is a dupe for Opi Skull and Glossbones?

  16. Boundary of Memory is my favorite too! Great swatches, as always.

  17. Funny how both the "whites" look so white, but are totally blue and pink when compared to that OPI!

  18. I think its just the difference in the lighting, the comparison photo is in the crappy lighting in my office :D

  19. My goodness! So many pretty colors!

  20. Are "Seeing Red", "Coca cola red" & "dressed to kilt" dupes? I've been trying to figure it out.

  21. After coming back to read this post, and these reviews repeatedly, I now have New Birth, and Friends Forever, Right? on their way to me!!!
I can't wait to wear them!!!

Now I just gotta get Five Rules!
