Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Wine Stock Swatch, Review & Wear Test

Hi guys! Today I have a review of the new Sally Hansen Miracle Gel for you! I saw these out at Target a while ago and just passed them by, I wasn't planning on trying any but then a reader asked me about them so I decided to go get one of the color and top coat sets.

The shade I got is Wine Stock, it's a nice vampy red creme. There are a ton of shades in this collection (45 in total), I decided on a dark color because I find it easier to tell when top coat dulls and when tip wear shows with dark shades. The Sally Hansen Miracle Gel polishes are available individually or you can get them in a set with 1 color and the special top coat, it was a little bit  cheaper to get the duo at Target.

The formula of Wine Stock was good, you are not supposed to wear a base coat under these and the directions say to use 2 coats. The coverage with 2 coats was pretty good, there were some patchy spots but they were more noticeable in photos than in person. I wrapped the tips of my nails with both the color and the top coat to try and help prevent tip wear. The top coat comes in a black bottle and does not require a light to cure. I did have issues with the top coat dragging off some of the color even though I waited about 5 minutes before applying it. However, once the top coat dried I didn't notice any streaks from that dragging. Dry time with the top coat was good, not as fast as a typical quick dry but much faster than a non quick dry top coat.

The Sally Hansen Miracle Gel boosts "Up to 14 days of Color & Shine" on their website. Unfortunately I got only 2 days of color and shine out of my manicure. By day three tip wear was starting to show and the top coat was significantly dulled and starting to show scratches. I can be hard on my nails at times but I was sick when wear testing this and on day 2 I literally didn't even leave my bed so how it got so dull and scratched is a mystery to me. (apologies for the darkness of the photo, the weather was crappy on day three lol)

Day Four the tip wear and scratches in the top coat was a bit more obvious.

Day five the tip wear was about the same but the dullness and scuffed look to the top coat was more obvious and as you can see it started chipping.

Overall meh...for some these might be great but for me I'm not sold. I removed it after day 5 because I just couldn't stand how it looked anymore. Personally I get better wear out of regular polish and top coat than I did with the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel. I am hoping that maybe this would last better on me with a base coat under the polish but I haven't had time to try that yet.

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel is available at drugstores and places like Target. At Target they were $7.99 each for the color and top coat when you bought them individually and $14.99 in the duo.

  1. Good to know. I don't get 14 days out of it, but the "gel" polish from Avon worked better than that. It's a little thick, but the color was nice and it was a nice price so I'm willing to make allowances.

  2. I 100% agree with your review. I had similar results when I did my review. I think it's good when you compare it to regular polish, but if you try and compare it to actual gel, it's not even in the same league. I know some ladies have gotten weeks of wear from it, so I'm glad that it's working so well for some. But I'm also glad I'm not the only one who couldn't stand it after a few days!!

  3. When I do a base coat, 2 to 3 coats of polish (even if they are thin coats) and a top coat my nail polish practically comes off in a sheet within 24 - 48 hours. What am I doing wrong? Please HELP!

  4. I like the top coat over regular polish, it seems to help it last longer. I can't use Seche Vite anymore, 2 coats of this worked much better for me.

  5. Perfect timing on this review, as I too, am wearing one of these. I am also not impressed! In fact, I decided to do an experiment. I did one hand with the SH topcoat and the other with my tried and true Essie Good to Go. I'm looking at both my hands right now, and the one with the Essie is chip free and shiny. The SH, not so much. I'm going on day three here. Also, the SH side has a chip and the Essie side has none. So glad I only bought one color of this. Not worth it IMO.

  6. Totally agree, this doesn't wear terribly well. However, it actually works over nail foils without puckering the finish! It's great over glitter placements too.

  7. Wow, thank you so much for testing it for all of us. That is kind of surprising. I feel like you almost would have gotten better wear out of the regular Sally Hansen pro nail polish...doesn't it promise 10 days? (I've heard it doesn't last 10, but is good for a solid 6-8, depending).

  8. Nice review and swatch along with wear test.

  9. I don't get why these companies rush to market something that doesn't even come close to living up to their claims. I love the color you picked but them as you noted, there was nothing at all special about how "long" it lasted. Did it stain without base coat?

  10. Nope, no staining which was nice with such a dark color!

  11. I know right, I always get good wear out of the Complete Salon Manicure line. I'll probably just stick with their regular polish from now on!

  12. ohh good to know! I've yet to get into foils but I've been wanting to try them!

  13. wow! I'm glad to know that it at least works well with regular top coat so you can use the color again and it doesn't go to waste!

  14. It could be the base coat you're using. I would try swiping your nail with acetone (or regular remover, whichever you use) before applying your base coat. You could also try a nail dehydrator before your base, KBShimmer makes one...it might help!

  15. I wonder how well this would work used like a regular polish, ie. with base coat and a normal quick-dry top coat. I'm hesitant to buy anything that requires a "system" of multiple products.

I've read these actually work best when you put your nails in sunlight...maybe try that?

  17. I was outside in the sun for a while, while taking the Day 1 photos and for a while longer after taking them. Doesn't seem like it made a difference for me

  18. Nice colour. Shame about the duration! I guess the 14 days didn't work in this case :-|

  19. Jen, adding to the *negative* votes for this polish, I've had the same experience as you did. That said, it's interesting to me to read everyone's individual methods for extending their mani's as long as possible. I have my own "system," too! Thanks for the review.

  20. I purchased these a couple weeks ago..the white and a nude shade. The bottle claimed two coats but I had to use 4 for the nude to cover the streaks and patchy areas. With the white it required 3. I was so unhappy with them that I took them back. I can use a base coat, regular polish and top coat for what it costs me to get the set from sally hansen. I had such high hopes but it was such a let down

  21. glad it wasn't just me!

  22. I did a galaxy mani using Rejuvacote base coat topped with Zoya Anchor underneath, then just used the Miracle Gel topcoat. I'm on day 8 and the only wear is on the tips where I had wrapped them and it's really not noticeable enough to bother me. I have no other chips or scratches or anything anywhere! I wonder if the kit would have worked better for you with a sticky basecoat. The scratches on top look awful though. That's such a disappointment! I definitely wouldn't spend money on the actual Miracle Gel polishes after reading your review, though I think the topcoat can work with regular polish and with a good basecoat :)

  23. Your swatches are always my favourite. Your website is the first place I go before deciding on buying a new nail polish collection :) I can't wait for you to get the China Glaze fall collection, I saw swatches on another blog but wasn't a fan of them so I want to see how your swatches look!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thanks <3 I can't wait to get my paws on their Fall collection...I haven't found it yet! It looks gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yes, and "Fall In Line" to "So Psyched".Would be really helpful to see comparisons.
Thank you so much and greetings from Austria/Europe!

  26. I appreciate you reviewing this because I was intrigued but didn't know enough about it to buy it. Now I can see that it's not worth the money unfortunately.

  27. Annnnd I just bought the mini-cube for this collection.

  28. how does "take it outside" compare to "extraordinary" from formula x?

  29. I don't own that Formula X polish anymore so I really can't say, sorry!

  30. Maranda, I don't have Partner in Crime, but I can say that I love How Great is Your Dane - it has a lot of wonderfully cool undertones which works so much better for my personal skin tone than a lot of the warmer browns coming out this fall. If you lean cool, I'd go that way, if warm, I'd look elsewhere!

  31. Odd.... my bottle of the perfect cover up looks just dark gray. .... no teal at all. Even in the swatch not the slightest teal.

  32. I just brought this (440 dig fig) a nice dark red. when i used the top coat a lot of the colour is transferred on to the top coat brush. does anyone else have this issue or heard of this happening. It never happened with my otherSH topcoat.

  33. I love the new Essie fall line! I've purchased Dress to Kilt, the Perfect Cover Up, and Fall in Line and I must say Fall in Line is my favorite! I find myself going back to it over and over. I just used it under China Glaze Fairy Dust (new addition to my collection) and it's gorgeous! The only problem I'm finding with this collection is chipping after only a couple days of wear. Did you have this problem?
I just switched to Seche Vite top coat and so far I'm loving it, I just hope it helps with this polish chipping. I love your swatches by the way, I always come here before I buy a new polish to see what you have to say about it! SO THANK YOU! Addicted to polish with ya, -Samantha

    ReplyDelete
  34. I didn't but I don't typically wear polish long enough for it to chip. I'd try switching up your base and top coat and seeing if that helps
