CND Vinylux Fall 2014 Modern Folklore Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Hope you all had a nice weekend! Mine was pretty good! Today I have the Modern Folklore Collection from CND in Viynlux form to share with you! This collection has some really gorgeous shimmers that are perfect from Fall! Check out the swatches after the jump!

Crimson Sash is a dark red shimmer. I've been kinda meh about reds lately since I feel like I've seen so many lately but I really enjoy the shimmer in this one. This is one of those polishes that looks like its glowing from within! The formula was really nice, it was easy to apply and nearly a 1 coater. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Fine Vermillion is an orange shimmer. This has some red undertones but it leans mostly toward orange on me, depending on your skin tone it could lean more red. The formula was good, it was a nice consistency and easy to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Indigo Frock is a dark blue/grey creme. I really like this one, I've worn it a few times as a base for glitters! The formula is good, its easy to work with and the opacity is good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Locket Love is a metallic gold foil. This has a bit of silver in it also and depending on the light it can lean towards looking silver. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and dried with minimal visible brush strokes. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Shade

Plum Paisley is a dark purple with a subtle shimmer. The shimmer is this one is pretty hidden but visible out in direct sunlight. It was easy to apply with good opacity. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Rose Brocade is a red creme. This has pink undertones so its nice and bright on the nail. The formula was good, it had a really nice creamy consistency and was easy to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

CND Vinylux retails for $9.90 a bottle and is available at select salons. To find a salon near you check out the CND website.

  1. Have you ever tried those Vinylux polishes without their usual topcoat, i.e. with a "regular" top coat (and/or with your usual base coat)? I'm asking because I have tried the combo (without base coat, as they recommend) in the past and was really disappointed with it; however, I find that they do offer nice colors, and I wonder how they would "react" (and hold!) with regular base and top coats. Thanks in advance for the info, if you have tried it. :)

  9. I think I'll try it. There's some polishes that cost just as much that don't even last a day on my nails hehe. I do have and use the LED kit and polishes which are great except for the removal of the polish part ugh. So probably will use these as a break in between uses.

  10. Whenever I use the Sally Hansen Miracle GEL I use Nailtiques Formula 2 as a base coat, two coats of the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel nail colour. Then I wait about 5 minutes before applying a GENEROUS coat of the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel top coat. Then I wait about another 10 minutes and apply a coat of seche vite fast dry top coat.

    Why I use this process:

    1) I get up to 7 days of wear with this. Now I know that may not seem like a long time to some, but for me (as I'm EXTREMELY hard on my nails), that's practically forever!
    2) Using the Sech Vite Fast Dry top cote over the Miracle Gel top coat helps my manicure dry. I find that if I don't use the sech vite my nails stay wet forever.

Some tips if you're going to try this method:
    1) Unfortunately, you need to wait the full 10 minutes, if not longer, before applying the Sech Vite top coat or else your polish will ripple. Now if you try this and your polish does end up rippling, just wait a few hours and apply another layer of the Sech Vite and it will smooth everything out.
    2) Wrap the tips of your nails with every layer. This will help to prolong your wear.

I've also used the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Top Coat over regular polish and under Sech Vite, and although I get longer than normal wear time, it still doesn't last as long as when I use the Miracle Gel Colour polish.

I'm not a nail expert and this is just the process that I use and I thought I would share!

  11. I'm on day three of wearing Sugar Fix and it is going strong. I can't get over how shiny it is!!! ❤️ It looks like I just put the top coat on. That's how shiny it is. I don't see any chips or any wear yet. Usually on day one of a regular manicure I mess it up. I was VERY disappointed however, when when I tried to do nail art with this as the base color and did my "squiggles" across my nails, followed by the top coat. :( The Sugar Fix color broke apart and looked like crap! I was so sad that all my hard work had to be taken off... So, I definitely wouldn't recommend doing nail art with this unless you're using another gel polish to decorate with.

  12. HOW do you get this stuff to dry?! I've been sitting here for an hour waiting to get in bed! I must have put too much on? Help!

  13. I bought the light blue one with glitter in it. I put 2 coats on underneath the top coat. The blue did stain some of my nails, more so on my toes than fingers. Both fingers and toes were applied exactly the same,

  14. Hey Jen! Just wondering how you cured the polish? Are you meant to stay in direct sunlight after application?

  15. yep, direct sunlight!
