OPI Holiday 2014 Gwen Stefani Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Hope you all had a nice weekend, it's technically still the weekend for me...thanks Labor Day! Today I have OPI's Holiday Collection for 2014 which is another Gwen Stefani Collection! Yeah you read that right, their Holiday Collection, already! I wasn't expecting to find these yet but I went to a local nail supply on Friday to get some other polishes and they had the display for these out! You all know how much I love me some Gwen so of course they all came home with me! This collection is very heavy on reds which is something OPI tends to do for every Holiday Collection but there are a couple gems in here! Check out the swatches after the jump!

Christmas Gone Plaid is a hunter green creme. This ended up being a little darker on the nail than it looked in the bottle. The formula was good, it was a good consistency and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Cinnamon Sweet is a red creme. The formula was good and the opacity was really nice. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Fashion A Bow is a slightly orange toned red. The formula was a bit of jelly, it dried with that nice shiny squishy look that jellies have. The formula was good but a touch on the sheer side, I used 3 coats for full opacity.

First Class Desires is a dark purple with a strong golden shimmer. This was more obviously purple in person than it translates in photos. It reminds me a lot of Zoya Sansa so if you have one you probably won't need the other. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

I Carol About You is a vibrant purple with a subtle shimmer. In the bottle this looked like a creme so it was a nice surprise to see the shimmer as I started applying it. This did smell very skunk-y as some blues and purples do sometimes because of the pigment in them. If you are sensitive to that scent you may want to pass on this one. The formula was good as was the opacity, I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Just Beclaus is a red creme. The formula was good, it was a nice consistency and easy to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

In A Holidaze is a maroon creme. This was a little bit jelly-ish also, like Fashion A Bow. The formula was good, it was a bit sheer but easily buildable and opaque in 3 coats.

Kiss Me- Or Elf! is a fuchsia shimmer. This is one of those shimmers that looks like it's glowing, photos don't do justice to how pretty it is. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Love Is Hot and Coal is a brown shimmer. The shimmer is this leans towards being a frost, it's not a polish I personally care very much for. The formula was good, it was a little patchy on the first coat but good with the 2nd coat. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Red Fingers and Mistletoes is a red and gold shimmer. The shimmer isn't noticeably gold out in the sun but it really comes out in the shade and indoors. The formula was good, it was a nice consistency and easy to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade

Sleigh Parking Only is a dark plummy purple creme. This is another that ended up being a little darker on the nail than I expected but I like it, it's such a nice vampy shade! The formula was good, it was a really nice consistency and the opacity was great, nearly a 1 coater! I used 2 coats for the photos below.

What's Your Point-settia? is a bright red creme. The formula was good, it was easy to work with and the opacity was great. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

  2. My favorites are Christmas Gone Plaid and Carol About You. Did OPI stop making Liquid Sand?

  3. I think I have died and gone to heaven with that bright purple!

  4. Hi! Love this post. Would you be able to compare the four red cremes in this collection? They all seem so similar.

  5. Wow! red creams aside it is a nice Holidays Collection I see myself getting at least three colours here! Thanks for the fantastic (early) swatches!

  6. I'll pass every single one of them. Horrid collection.

  7. That purple is gorgeous! :)

  8. Christmas Gone Plaid looks just lovely. Could you compare it to Zoya Hunter please?

  9. Jen, these are lovely swatches! There are some great colors here, all very traditional. I don't mind those shimmers. And it's not too soon to start planning for the holidays!

  10. These are a lot more interesting than I thought they would be... based on the promo bottle shots. And your swatches are gorgeous as always. Can't wait to see some comparisons before I plot my purchases!

  11. I'm really disappointed about the colours so far :(

  12. Thanks for the beautiful (as always) swatches and congrats on getting these out so quickly! Regarding the collection though, all I can say is "Ho Ho Hum". I was expecting some colors I just had to have but it's not happening for me. And I'm in the camp that thought the OPI fall collection was just plain weird. Maybe next year, OPI? We'd love to forgive you.

  13. Thank you for posting these swatches! I have been looking forward to seeing this collection on actual fingers.

  14. Lovely swatches, but...wow, this collection is boring. I know it's Holiday, but FIVE reds, four of which are virtually-identical cremes? Nope. I Carol About You and First Class Desires are nice, but I don't see anything groundbreaking or unique here; at least the Mariah collections gave us some interesting glitters and Liquid Sands. Between this and the been-there-done-that Nordic collection, OPI really needs to step up their game.

  15. Pity that I Carol About You smells - I adore purples, but that isn't unique enough to overcome the smell. Seems like a tame collection (though very holiday appropriate) and I don't get the collection to Gwen.

  16. Nothing really stands out for me. Three reds in one collection is a bit much. Nice colors but no standouts..

  17. Always nice to see the holiday collections -- but this one other than a few like Elf leave me under-welmed

  18. WOW, as lovely as your swatches are....I think I don't need any of these polishes! My wallet is happy, but the polish lover in me is sad and disappointed about this flat collection. I mean 4 cream/crelly/jelly reds in one collection is just plain weird.......especially after bringing out Over And Over A-Gwen, Red Hot Rio, Coca-Cola Red and Race Red in the last year alone!

  19. Jen, great swatches as always, but aside from First Class Desires, nothing really stands out to me. I remember the Skyfall collection was really stellar, but the last two years just haven't held up. And am I the only one that finds it odd that this is a Gwen Stefani collection? Doesn't remind me of her at all!

Where is the "Dont Speak" gold color?
I want to see that one!

  21. The colors are all really pretty, but I am in no way wowed by this collection. I doubt I'll pick anything up from it.

  22. I'm not a huge fan of this collection. I do like Christmas Gone Plaid and Sleigh Parking Only, but I don't feel like I absolutely need them or any of the other colors in this collection. I'm kind of bored by the color selection. Gorgeous swatches though!

  23. coming soon, it's getting its own post later this week!

  24. I can't really see the difference between some of the reds, but they are pretty. I just swatched one of the glitters from this collection, it's called So Elegant and it is indeed quite elegant :) A mixture of matte black and metallic graphite hexes in a clear base

  25. Do you thing Red Fingers and Mistletoes is a close dupe for The Spy Who Loved me? Lovely swatches, as usual, but OPI went totally boring on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I haven't compared any of these yet, I'll add that to my list to look at!

  27. I like the two purples, Kiss Me - or Elf, and Red Fingers and Mistletoes. The other colors are nice, but not fabulous. I'm not surprised Gwen's collection would have lots of red, but I wish they were not all so similar. For someone with such a unique style, that style did not translate into the polishes.

  28. I'm so glad you shared these already! Some good ones, but I really expected more from a Gwen collection. I am still waiting for an epic holiday collection like the 2012 Skyfall Collection.

  29. Your swatches are beautiful. Would you mind doing a comparison of "Christmas Gone Plaid" and Essie "Going Incognito"? Loving that one but it looks extremely similar.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Some of them are really nice! I think I might get a few ;-) Great photos :-D

  31. I have over and over a gwen, so I'm good on reds,,, but i love the Christmas Plaid green one, and the Carol purple one!! The plum Sleigh is nice too!

The Spy Who Loved Me is not a blue based red. It's more orange leaning than the one in this collection, although the shimmer looks similar.

  33. Your polishes are so beautiful. I wish I could paint my nails half as well as you do.

  34. These nail colors are killer! I love the red glitter ones, they're gorgeous! I didn't know Gwen was up to nail polish!

  35. Kiss Me or Elf looks like Essie Sure Shot and Sleigh Parking Only looks like OPI I Brake for Manicures or perhaps Zoya Toni or Chanel Provocation. Any chance for comparisons? thanks. I am most looking forward to the glitter topper set and Don't Speak- I think those will be the stars of this collection. Funny how at the last Gwen collection so many cried out for more red, Gwen's signature, and now all the reds are overwhelming to most of us! But that is typical for the Holiday collaborations. Mariah Carey's Holiday collection had more than its share of snooze-tastic reds, too. we haven't had a really exciting Holiday collection from OPI since Skyfall. Thanks for all the amazing swatches, so fast!

  36. Hi , as usual your swatches are perfect. Could you compare Opi in a Holidaze vs Zoya Veronica ? thank you

    ReplyDelete
  37. i am really dissapointed in OPI lately, they don't innovate any more. It's like i've seen all the colors before. The Mariah Carey holiday collection was more surprising than Gwen's. A shame, because i really like Gwen Stefani and i tought she would give the collection a littele more "spice".

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm not really feeling any of these besides First Class Desires. Your swatches, as always, are lovely! :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. These colors are pretty! Not very original necessarily but I do like a few of them. And the names are really fun for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wow, Christmas and Gwen Stefani in one collection - this is basically my dream come true! Thanks for your (super early) beautiful swatches! I love I Carol About You!

I would love to see a comparision between Fashion A Bow and My Paprika is Hotter Than Yours and the reds from this collection with the reds from OPI from earlier in the year and Mariah's Christmas collection eg All I want for Christmas is OPI. Is In A Holidaze (being a maroon) close to Skyfall, or is closer to purple (looks purple to me). I feel like I have seen Kiss Me- Or Elf! before - possibly by Essie?

    ReplyDelete
  41. beautiful swatches as always, but even those can't fool me, this will be a collection I'll skip entirely.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Lovely swatches as always but too many teds perhaps OPI? My faves are Christmas gone plaid and I Carol about you (not too affected by strong smelling polishes)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I expected something fun, pretty and unique like Gwen. :o(

    ReplyDelete
  44. Am I the only one who really likes quite a few of these? haha. In A Holidaze is definitely on my wishlist for AW!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Love your swatches, perfect as always! I was wondering if you could compare In a Holidaze to Zoya Veronica? Thank you!:)

  46. Christmas time offers so many different colours, it is not only about red, and I have no idea how they manage to create such a boring collection. However, great swatches, as always! :)
Oh, and I'd love to see the reds comparisons!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hmmm.. while I love your swatches (they are always the best!) I am just not really feeling this one unfortunately.. Curious to see how much Zoya Sansa and First Class Desires are really alike :).
