Orly Fall 2014 Smoky Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Today I have Orly's Fall 2014 Smoky Collection to share with you! I hadn't heard much about this collection but I came across it a few weeks ago at my local beauty supply and couldn't resist the pretty shimmers! Along with the shimmers there are a couple nice neutral cremes that are nice on their own and will work great as undies for glitters! Check out all the swatches after the jump!

Blend is a taupe creme that leans a bit towards purple. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Brush It On is a sheer coppery/orange/red duochrome shimmer. This is very sheer on its own, I swatched it that way at first and was like lolno and ended up taking it off before even taking photos. I almost gave up on it after layering it over a light shade and it looking terrible but I gave it a go over a dark base and that was the trick! In the sun this is pretty but in the shade and lower light it comes to life, shifting between red, gold and green! The formula on its own is sheer, you'd need at least 4 coats and even then I'm not sure it would be opaque. I used 2 coats over OPI Sleigh Parking Only for the photos below!

Shade

Darkest Shadow is a black base with pink shimmer and a bit of red glitter. The shimmer is pretty hidden, barely coming out in direct sunlight. In lower and indoor lighting it looked pretty much black most of the time. The formula was good, it was a nice consistency with good opacity. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Edgy is a greenish bronze shimmer. This one is interesting, must more so in person than photos can capture. The shimmer is fleck like and really complex when you see it in real life! The formula was good, it was a touch sheer on the first coat but opaque with the second coat. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Highlight is a greyish putty creme. I can't think of any other way to describe it haha! Its a nice neutral that I'll get good use out of for layering. The formula was good, it was easy to apply with nice opacity. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Smoked Out is a deep teal blue with blue/green shimmer. The formula was ok, I found it to be a bit thick but I didn't have any application issues. This does dry down slightly matte, I didn't care for it that way so I added top coat! I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Orly's Smoky Collection is available now at stores like Sally Beauty Supply and Ulta! The price varies depending on where you buy from!

  4. I love this collection, but it's DRIVING ME NUTS! I absolutely cannot find Brush It On and Edgy in ANY store. I've called every single store that carries Orly within a hour of me and several family members. They have the collection sure, but not a single one of them has those two polishes!

  8. Lol I was just thinking that Orly is so old and boring, that nothing they put out is original and their only upside was that they have bigger than normal bottles and their white brush handles were squishy and felt nice ,and then I found out that they changed the handles and was like -_- there goes 50% of why I tolerate you Orly. Anyway, I would get the gray but there seems to be yellow in there so no thanks.

  15. Can you do a color comparison between Orly's Darkest Shadow, Sinful Colors' Rich at Heart and Essie's wicked?

  16. My Sally's only had a display of 4 Blended, Highlight, Darkest Shadow and Smoked Out. I wonder how the the purple taupe compares to the other purple taupes out there. (hint hint) :):) so I couldn't rationalize buying it. I might have to try to find Edgy though.

  19. I went to 3 different Sally's looking for Brush It On. All of them only have the display with only 4 of the polishes from this collection. I finally gave up and ordered it online from Transdesign. I wish I would have ordered Edgy too. I did pick up some awesome things from the Orly Hoilday 2014 collection though. It was my first order with Transdesign, and I will definitely be a repeat customer. Great prices, fast shipping, and things I've had a hard time finding in stores.
    (Fantastic swatches as always, BTW!)

  20. Yeah, I have a huge list for my next transdesign.com order and I've added those to it. I'm still calling a few stores in case they get them in anytime soon.

  21. Brush It On looks great over dark shades! I love also Darkest Shadow and Smoked Out (I thought is was similar to CG Smoke and Ashes, but I checked your swatches and the latter is definitely more on the black side)...

  22. Can you PLEASE do a comparison swatch of Blend and colors like it from China Glaze, OPI, and Essie? I am stressing out that I keep buying the same colors. Thank you sooooo much!

  23. Smoked Out has to be mine, so beautiful!

  24. I'm wondering how similar Highlight is to OPI's Skull and Glossbones from the Pirates collection? Brush it on looks amazing, but it seems like kind of a pain. Thanks for the tip about a dark base!
