Serum No. 5 FW14 Part 1 Collection Swatches & Review

Happy Friday! Today I have the first part of the Serum No. 5 FW14 Collection to share with you! This half of the collection is being released today over at, the second half will be coming in October! This first half of the collection is made up of 7 new polishes, 2 of which glow in the dark. In addition of the 7 new polishes there are also 2 more designs for the Cut It Out Nail Vinyls being released! Check out all the swatches after the jump!

A Class Act is a medium pink holo. The formula was really nice, it was a good consistency with good opacity. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

First Colors is red, blue and yellow glitter in a white crelly base. I love this mix of primary colors! The formula was good, it was easy to apply and much more opaque than I expected! I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Fractured Rainbows is a glow in the dark flakie topper. The base is a bit milky as you apply it but it clears a bit as the polish dries. I did have some issues getting this one to glow, the glow in the bottle is super bright but on the nail it just wasn't happening for me. I asked Victoria from Serum No. 5 about it and she said it could be the flakies causing that, I believe that she is lessening the amount of flakies to help out with that! For the photos below I used 1 coat of Fractured Rainbows over Zoya Ryan.

Lighting: Shade

For the glow in the dark photo below I used 3 coats of Fractured Rainbows on its own!

Lighting- My dark, hot as heck garage, I thought I was going to die from heat taking that photo, srsly

Leaves You Breathless is a mix of fall colored glitter in a clear base. There are all sorts of colors going on, everything from gold and orange to green and black! The formula was good, it was easy to apply with great glitter payoff. I used 1 coat over Sleepy Holo for the photos below.

Sleepy Holo is a charcoal grey holo. The holo was stronger in person than in photos, as usual! The formula was good, it was easy to apply and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Tassle's Worth The Hassle is iridescent and holo glitter in a sheer black base, this also glows bright green in the dark! The formula was good, it was sheer at first but it builds easily and is opaque in 3 coats.

Work Hard Play Hard is a brown base with a coppery shimmer and different shades of blue glitter, gold and fuchsia glitter. I really like the contrast between the base and the glitter in this polish! The formula was good, it was sheer but easily buildable. Depending on how the glitter falls onto the nail it can be opaque in 2 coats, I used 3 for my photos!

Along with all the new polishes Serum No. 5 is releasing 2 new designs for their Cut It Out Nail Vinyls! These are easy to use both as decals or as stencils! I decided to use both of them for decals, I really liked the way they looked with the colors of the sheets Victoria sent!

Back To School is full of apples, straight lines, scissors, books, graduation caps and diplomas! I used these as decals over OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls!

Fallen is very fall themed with different leaves, squirrels, acorns and more. I love the little squirrels! We have a bunch of squirrels that live in our back yard (all named Biggens because they are impossible to tell apart), they are all super friendly so I'm always out there giving them peanuts. Pretty much any kind of animal decoration I can put on my nail is a favorite for me. I'm gonna need someone to make Dachshund vinyls one of these days! I used the Fallen designs over Sleepy Holo for the photos below.

The 1st part of the FW14 Collection will be available September 5th at 12pm PST at

  1. Since the Skyfall collection, I've been SO EXCITED for the OPI Holiday Collections. I'm not a huge fan of this Gwen Stefani Collection. I think I'll just reorder a bottle of The Spy Who Loved Me to wear this holiday season. THAT is a seasonal, festive red that cannot be beat! (Also, I like the following from the fall collection: Skating on Thin Ice-Land, Suzi Has a Swede Tooth, and Thank Glogg it's Friday. I don't feel like the Nordic collection includes colors that are exclusively for Fall and Winter, but I'm Swedish, which makes me want those colors :) )

  2. Pretty collection. I'm liking how the holos look :-)

  3. just a curiosity, do you know if the glow in the dark nail polishes also glow in black lights?

  4. I don't know, sorry

  5. Lovely First Colors! But my favorite is Leaves You Breathless because it's so appropriate for fall. :D

  6. Another Gwen Stefani collaboration? Interesting. The only one of these that really stands out to me is Christmas Gone Plaid--love that deep, rich green!

  7. For being a Gwen Stefani collection, I would have expected something less... boring. They're pretty colors, but nothing is at all unique.

  8. I think you're about to cost me a lot of money.... These are simply beautiful!!

  9. I Carol About You is one that I need! Great review!

  10. I agree...boring, ugly....and I'm disappointed. I was going for some Kickass textures, with tons of sparkle and combined colors of glitter in each. Or how about some intense multichromes? I'm thinking you can get all these colors in Sinful Colors, or Wet N Wild. *sigh* Ok, so what about Sally Hansen? What's coming out from her? China Glaze? Nicole by OPI was disappointing too, though I went ahead and got "Dazzling with talent".

  11. I thought it would be closer to You only live twice?
Would you look at that too, please?
