The PolishAholic Pad- Update #2

Hi guys! Today I thought I'd post a quick house update! Unfortunately I haven't moved in yet, due to the mold and no walls issues in the bathrooms but that finally got all fixed last week so *hopefully* I'll be moving in the next week or so. Luckily I don't have very much to move, mainly my bed, desk and nail polish storage. All my polish is already at my place, I brought all the drawers over so only the actual units the drawers go in will be moved by movers! Most of the big stuff was stuff I had to buy since I didn't already have it so its already in the new house!

First up is my TV/Entertainment center thingy. I got a freakin awesome deal on a Samsung 55" Smart TV right before Black Friday, I was planning on getting a smaller TV but I couldn't pass up the deal when I saw it, I would link to it but its no longer on sale sooooo :( I have the TV sitting on a Byas TV stand from Ikea, you can find it here. The bookcases on either side are also from Ikea, they are both from the Billy line and were $40 each...what a deal! It looked a bit empty above the TV so I've hung up various sizes of circular mirrors, apparently I didn't take a photo of that...you can see them on the shelves of the book case on the right from before I hung them.

Check out the rest of the post after the jump!

Also in the living room is a grey chevron storage ottoman by Dorel. I got mine from Wayfair. I haven't decided where I'm actually going to put this yet so its just in the middle of the room right now haha!

One of the things I've had issues finding was end tables. I finally settled on mirrored nesting tables by Ave Six, also from Wayfair. I think I might actually get another set of these to put on the other side of the couch but I haven't decided yet!

The newest part of the living room is my area rug! This was another thing I was having a problem shopping for, I didn't know what I wanted. I figured when I found it I would just know...and I did! I was browsing Wayfair and found an awesome looking rainbow rug, I was like YAS but it was almost $200 and I couldn't justify it. Then a week or so later I found it on Hautelook for under $100. It's like it was meant to be! It's the Loloi Barcelona Rainbow rug, you can find it on Wayfair here, however its overpriced there so if you want it maybe stalk websites like Hautelook and you could get lucky like I did! Once the creases from being rolled up in shipping relax the rug will look great! I love how vibrant it is without being too bright, it's a nice pop of color since most of my living room is grey and white.

Moving into the nook next to my kitchen, eventually it will be my Degen space. It's meant to be a dining room but I don't really need that area. I have a Hemnes Shoe Storage unit from Ikea over here, most likely I'll end up using it for magazines and slippers since my shoes will have a home in my closet in the bedroom!

Also in the nook is a Kallax Shelving Unit from Ikea, you can get doors made for the Kallax in a variety of colors, I decided on green for a bit of color and it matches part of the light fixture I have in the middle of the nook. I also got some white baskets to put in the middle spots, those will eventually be used to hold Degen's toys. Ya...Degen needs a giant toy storage thing...because I spoil him. I'm not sorry :)

Super fancy Christmas Tree and decorations from Target

The light fixture I have in the nook/Degen area is the PS 2014 from Ikea. It's hard to see in the photos but the inside parts of the light when its open are green. I've been eying it for months at Ikea, I needed it in mah life!I posted a photo of this on Instgram and several people said it looks like the Death Star...now I can never unsee it lol

Moving on to the kitchen...I got appliances YAY! The fridge, range and microwave are all GE. I didn't plan it that way but it ended up being what I liked when I went to Home Depot. I think the people who lived here before me had their microwave on the counter but I think it is much better above the range!

Next up, window coverings! One of the guys from work came and did these for me, I work at a company that does commercial window coverings so it worked out nicely. I decided on vertical blinds in the living room. The sliding door is so massive that it was really the only option since I'm not a big fan of curtains. The vanes are fabric so they are quiet when you open and close them.

In both bedrooms I got white faux wood blinds, nothing too exciting but much better than aluminum mini blinds!

Out on the patio we ripped out the giant plant that was in the corner and put in synthetic turf. It was pretty inexpensive, about $100 for the amount I needed and it's maintenance free which is my kinda product. It needs to settle in a bit (it still looks a bit squished from being rolled up) but it looks so much better and I think Degen will like it. I got my synthetic turf from Easy Turf. I still need to figure out what to do out on the rest of the patio. I'm thinking of putting a neutral outdoor rug and maybe a hammock out there...I dunno.

Next up was my big project this weekend: The master closet! I took the doors off (because they were ugly) so it was just a big open space. It's pretty large, over 10 feet long so I had a lot of room to work with. Here it is before!

I ended up designing a closet from the Martha Stewart line at Home Depot. It's super customizable which is great, and it's easy to move things around if I ever decide I'd rather have more shelving instead of hanging space. For now I have a big shelving  unit in the middle with double hanging on each side of it then single tall hanging on the ends. This was surprisingly VERY easy to install. You just hang a track on the wall and everything else hangs off of it, all together it took me under 2 hours to put together!

Last up, my nightmare bathrooms. Happy to say these monsters are now mold free and with walls. Before the mold was banished back to hell and new drywall was put up my contractor had to remove more drywall and even some of the door trim because it was totally soaked from the leak.

This is what the walls look like now, they need to be painted but that will be easy. There are little access doors so that I can get to some shut off valves the plumber put in for me...just in case. I need to trim out the doors to make them look more like kitchen cabinets or something because right now they are ugly. I was more about function instead of pretty at the time they were done...I figure it will be easy to fix whenever I get around to it.

Below is the spare bathroom all drywalled!

Last up for today, I got an awesome shower head....right now its in the spare bathroom since I'll primarily be using it until I can get the shower in the master re-glazed.

Whew...thats it for now! I still have to build a dresser and vanity desk and actually ya know...move, but other than that its really coming together!

Jen, it's wonderful! So smart to get this much done before you move in! And glad to see you still have all your enthusiasm with the hell you went through! But that is behind you and now it's YOURS and Degan's of course. Merry Christmas to you both! Can't wait to see your polish room!

  16. Your place looks great and is coming along well, so glad the mold issue is resolved. But most importantly Degen has adequate storage. Because any home belongs more to the dog than to the hooman :-)
