OPI Fall 2015 Venice Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Today I have the Fall 2015 Venice Collection from OPI to share with you! In total there are 15 polishes in the collection, I have the main 12 for you today! The other 3 are limited edition shades and I'll be posting them sometime next week. The Venice Collection is inspired by Baroque period decadence according to OPI. I was a bit surprised by the collection because a lot of the colors feel more Spring to me, I do like that OPI is mixing it up a bit though. Fall and Winter are my favorite polish seasons for the dark, vampy shades, but I do like a nice light palette cleanser every now and then and this collection offers up a bit of both of those. Check out all the swatches after the jump!

A Great Opera-tunity is a light peachy creme. I really like this one, I'm always a sucker for these types of shades so I wasn't too surprised when it was the one I was immediately drawn to. The formula was really nice, it was a good consistency and easy to apply with good opacity. I use 2 coats for the photos below.

Amore at Grand Central is a red creme. Nothing to write home about it is a nice red and flattering on my skin tone since its blue toned. The formula was nice, it was easy to apply and had nice opacity. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Be There In A Prosecco is a light yellow toned beige creme. I usually don't love yellow toned nudes like this but I don't mine this one, its a good base for glitter or nail art. The formula was good, it was a bit streaky on the first coat but even and opaque with the second. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Gelato On My Mind is a light blue creme. The formula was good, it was patchy on the first coat but the second coat completely evened it out. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Gimme A Lido Kiss is a shimmery red. The shimmer flashes a bit pink out in the sun which I like. The formula was good, easy to apply and it had nice opacity. I would suggest being careful with removal of this one, I wasn't and it stained the skin around my nails a bit. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

I Cannoli Wear OPI is a very light grey creme. I was hoping that this would be a dupe for my beloved My Boyfriend Scales Walls, unfortunately it's not :( Its hard to tell in photos but its much more grey than MBSW is on the nail. The formula was good, it was a little streaky on the first coat but easily opaque and even with the second coat. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Shade

It's A Piazza Cake is a burnt orange creme. This is what I'm talking about, I love this one! This is going to be one of those shades you either love or hate...for me it screams Fall! The formula was really nice, it was a good consistency and applied easily with great opacity. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

My Gondola Or Yours? is a black with very very subtle shimmer. The shimmer shows up more prominently in my photos than it does in real life, even out in the bright sun. The formula was ok, it was a bit thinner than what I usually like but it was easy enough to apply. I used 2 coats plus top coat since it dried a little dull looking.

O Suzi Mio is a dark eggplant purple creme. Just a warning, this looks black like 99% of the time...even out in the sun. The formula was good, it was a nice consistency and easy to apply. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Purple Palazzo Pants is a light lilac purple creme. Another Spring shade, but its a nice pop of color in the collection. The formula was good, it was really smooth going on and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Tiramisu for Two is another beige-y neutral creme. This one leans more pink so it goes a bit better with m y skin tone. The formula was great, it flowed really nicely onto the nail and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Worth A Pretty Penne is a coppery foil. I wasn't sure about this one at first, it just didn't much for me in the bottle. Once I put it on I liked it a lot better, I was worried it might be frosty but its not. The formula was great, it was easy to apply and nearly a 1 coater. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Shade

Overall the collection feels a bit all over the place, and more Spring than Fall but I did end up liking several of the shades. My picks are Worth A Pretty Penne, It's a Piazza Cake and A Great Opera-tunity.

The Venice Collection from OPI is available now, you can find it at Ulta and various other professional salons. OPI retails for $9.50 a bottle.

  1. I agree the Fall theme isn't really visible in this set, but I do love the lighter tones and the formula on them sounds good!

It's a Piazza is so gorgeous!! I LOVE colors like that and it really screams Fall, though I agree that the rest of the collection is bit soft-toned for Fall.

  4. Loving the lighter colors in this collection! If you do any comparison swatches with this collection, I'd love to see how Gelato On My Mind compares with Essie Mint Candy Apple.

  5. What an uninspired collection - and yes, it's mostly more Spring than Fall - OPI needs to do better than this - ick

  6. Hmmm...I might pick up a few of these. I feel I haven't been super excited about an OPI since the Brazil collection. But the orange shades are piquing my interest.

  7. Hmmm, the only one that really does much for me is Pretty Penne. What an odd bunch of colors.

Sorry but OPI dropped the ball on this one... Gelato on my Mind is the only one I got and it will be the only one I get.... the reds are pretty but something we see in EVERY collection same with the purple :(

  9. i love all of your swatches. i think all the colors look fabulous and sound like good formulas, but i also agree 100% with your overall opinion of the collection as a whole. i think sometimes brands try to ''step outside the box'' by introducing colors into a seasonal collection that don't really fit the season. but... if we wanna wear spring colors in the fall, we have plenty of spring colors to bust out lol it makes no sense to me. i love fall for FALL colors!! gimme some of those fall colors! ;-D

  10. Nah......I'm skipping this collection those colors are just repromotes with new names. I'm all over essie and china glaze this fall. O.P.I. blew it with this one

  11. Beautiful!
Do you have Don't Pretzel My Buttons? can you compare it with Tiramisu for two?

  12. Hi Jen, since OPI is a world-wide company, I'm betting that the inclusion of "spring" colors into a "fall" collection is to cater to those parts of the world that are south of the Equator! (It's spring there!)

I'm really not that excited about this collection. Although, I do like the "Spring" shades the best. They're very pretty!

  14. I like more of these than I anticipated. And Dang it, I was hoping that I Cannoli Wear OPI was also a dupe for MBSW.

  15. Hi Jen,

I have bought some of these and my 'My Gondola Or Yours?' black polish has no shimmer at all in it? Since reading your post I've examined the bottle a few times and it just looks like a cross between a regular black polish and a jelly formula? Am I going crazy?! :) I've checked it on the nails too and there's nothing...do you think I got a dud? I'd much prefer if it was like your one! :)

  16. The shimmer is very very subtle so that may be why you're not seeing it in your bottle. My wasn't really jelly-ish at all, but I've seen a couple other bloggers describe it the way you did!

  17. Ok, I think there's more investigating to be done here! :) hee hee!

  18. I love these shades! It doesn't look like Fall, but the current trend seems to be for white/beige/grey and other light tones. I guess they are trying to redefine what's expected for the seasons. I find it somewhat refreshing but application is more forgiving with the darker colours. I also heard that metallic blue and golds are big for Fall. Most important though, wear what you love and makes you feel happy!

  19. same here - i swear i've seen all of these shades plenty of times. 3 nude cremes, whaaaa?

  20. I totally agree if you're going to showcase Venice and the Baroque period, we should have a lot of rich, deep colors and some gold! The lilac one really feels out of place. This collection doesn't do a whole lot for me, though your swatches are great and the cremes look nice!

  21. I absolutely love 'Worth a Pretty Penne'! I work at a spa and do a lot of pedicures and when we got this collection in, I was so stoked at how awesome this one went on the nail. Seriously, almost a 1 coater for sure which makes my life easier:D Also digging the burnt orange, it's weird and I love playing with weird!

  22. Is my boyfriend scales walls not in sale anymore since your looking for a dupe?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think it was discontinued, I'm forever looking for a dupe!

  24. Noooooo .... I've had that one on my wishlist forewer but always thought that it could wait and always had something a little more interesting on place no 1 to buy next ... Now I feel like buying everything on my wishlist so this wont happen again LOL. There is nothing more heartbreaking than your favorite product being reformulated or completely gone. You never find something that can satisfy you :-p I tried it with Parlez Vous OPI. I think I bought 10-15 dupes (even had one specialy made for me) because I was too cheap to buy an HTF. But none of them satisfiedmy hunger for the original PVO, so I ended up spending more money on dupes than if I just bought PVO from the start LOL And ofcourse I ended up buying PVO in the end, and it is my forever favorite <3
I cross my fingers that OPI build those boyfriend walls back up!! Sending love to you from Denmark <3

  25. You may still be able to find it in stores, I have nail supply stores near me that still has them. Just depends on the place!

I love PVO, one of my favorites also!

  26. How similar do you think It's a Piazza Cake is to Call Me Gwen-Ever?
