OPI Holiday 2015 Starlight Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys Hope you all had a nice weekend. Mine was alright, I feel like I'm coming down with a cold or something so that kinda sucks. Today I have the Starlight Collection from OPI to share with you. This is a big collection made up of 18 polishes. Instead of being red heavy like OPI Holiday Collections usually are this one is more silver and metallic heavy. Check out all the swatches after the jump.

By The Light Of The Moon is silver glitter in a silver metallic base. Not a fan of this one personally, the metallic base and glitter just doesn't work well together and the end result is just lumpy looking. The formula was on the thick side but it was easy to apply and the opacity was fantastic. I used 1 coat plus top coat for the photos below. The top coat does smooth it out but it doesn't get rid of the lumpy look.

Shade

Ce-Less-Tial Is More is a silver glitter. This has a bit of a pink tone to it. The formula was good, its easy to get opaque on its own but with a thin coat you may be able to use it as a topper also. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below. If you want this smooth you'll probably need a couple coats of top coat.

Center of the You-niverse is a black with black glitter and silver shimmer. I'm not really sure what the point of the black glitter is in this polish...you can see it on the first coat but its completely covered up with the second coat. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and had good opacity. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

Comet Closer is a golden toned silver metallic. The formula was good, it was a nice consistency and easy to apply plus it doesn't show brush strokes which is good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Cosmo With A Twist is a dark blackened base with a strong blurple shimmer. The formula was good, it was a little patchy on the first coat but opaque with the second. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

Give Me Space is a rich medium blue with blue glitter and a little sprinkle of holo glitter. This reminds me a bit of Zoya Dream so if you have that polish you can probably skip on this one. The formula was good, it was easy to apply with good opacity. It did dry down a little dull. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

Guys & Galaxies is a dark oxblood red creme. This has a little bit of a jelly quality to it but its not sheer. The formula was ok, it was a nice consistency but it goes on a little patchy. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

I Drive A SuperNova is a silver metallic. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and had great opacity. it does however show brush strokes so you'll want to be careful with application. I used 1 coat for the photos below.

I'm In The Moon For Love is a red toned purple with subtle pink/blue shimmer. This reminds me of an old OPI polish but I can't for the life of me think of the name...if anyone knows which one I'm talking about please let me know in the comments! The formula was good, it was easy to apply and had good opacity. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Infrared-y To Glow a glitter topper with small holographic hex glitter and a weird check sort of shaped glitter. I'm not really sure what to call that shape to be honest. The formula was good, it is a little base heavy but the glitter comes out on the brush easily so you just need to move around the glitter where you want it. I used 1 dabbed coat over No More Mr. Night Sky for the photos below. Photos are in the shade.

Is This Star Taken? is a silver metallic base with holographic bar glitter mixed in. I wish the photos more accurately showed how lumpy this one looks in person, its just awful...sorry OPI. The formula was ok, it was on the thick side but easy to apply with great opacity. I used 1 coat plus top coat for the photos below. Top coat does smooth it out but doesn't get rid of the lumpy look. t

Shade
Let Your Love Shine is a dark red with gold shimmer. This one is more interesting in real life than it looks in photos, it just doesn't translate as pretty as it is. The formula was good, it was a nice consistency and easy to apply with good opacity. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Love Is In My Cards is a red creme. The leans a little to the orange side of red but not too much. The formula was great, it was really smooth and a breeze to apply with good opacity. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

No More Mr. Night Sky is a medium grey with pink and blue shimmer. The formula was ok, it was easy to apply but a bit sheer. I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Press * For Silver is a rosy silver frost. I personally don't care for this but I'm sure there is someone out there who will love it. The formula was ok, it was a good consistency and applied easily but it is very brush strokey. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Ro-Man-Ce On The Moon is a red shimmer. This is super glowy looking, like a lit from within shimmer. The formula was good, it was easy to work with and the opacity was really good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Super Star Status is a silver glitter. The glitter in this ranges from medium to very tiny. The formula was good, it was easy to apply with good glitter payoff. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

Two Wrongs Don't Make A Meteorite is small copper hex glitter and "check" glitter and gunmetal diamond glitter in a clear base. The formula was good, it was a little base heavy but not too bad. I used 1 dabbed coat over Guys & Galaxies for the photos below.

Overall I don't really care for the majority of this collection, its just too metallic for my personal taste. There are some gems though, the 2 glitter toppers are interesting and I like the different shaped glitters. I also really like Cosmo With A Twist and Let Your Love Shine.

The OPI Starlight Collection is available now at professional salons and Ulta.

  2. I bought Give Me Space (though I have Zoya Dream and OPI DS Fantasy) - I simply can't skip a blue scattered holo :)
Cosmo with a Twist is pretty unique, too!
The rest of the collection... meh. In a year I won't even remember any of them.

  3. There are a few I like, but do we need three silvery metallics? They blur together. Or two silver glitters? Also, OPI needs to just stop putting glitter in metallic bases, yuck!

  4. I'm In The Moon For Love reminds me of Kiss Me or Elf from last years holiday collection but a little different

  5. Thank you so much for your swatches of this collection. What is up with OPI? I did not see one polish that made a hiccup in my radar! I guess that is good, though - I can now move on to other collections that I am interested in!

  6. it's funny... My base excange got the ENTIRE collection over a month ago and it seems as though no one likes it because only one of the red cremes and one of the glitters has sold out. I only bought Give me Space, Ce-Less-Tial is More, and Is This Star Taken, and I have to say I love Is this Star Taken. Yeah it looks lumpy but the sparkle the glitter gives off is beautiful.
I think I have to go see if we still have Let your Love Shine though, that Swatch made me fall in Love

  7. Excited for a few of these, and so glad you did swatches, 'cause yours are the best.
Is "Suzi and the 7 Dusseldorfs" the purple you're thinking of? I thought of it right away when I saw that swatch, as it's one of my favorites.

  8. I actually returned one of the silver ones because of the grit and lumpy texture. The bright red one (Ro-Man-Ce on the Moon) has garnered me a ton of compliments, though.

  9. Nice photos - thanks - but oh what an uninspired collection! Ho-Hum! All the silvers just blur together in my mind's eye - I would have put in a nice deep green. The blues look too much alike as well - the red cream is as boring as it comes, as is the dark red oxblood cream it's been done to death and this is not even close to a good one. The only shade that sort of speaks to me is Let Your Love Shine

  10. Wow, 18 shades and I liked only 3 of them.. Blue holo, vampy and red. Very repetitive. I don't get those silvers at all.

  11. I own Cosmo With A Twist and Let Your Love Shine and both are really pretty, but the rest of the collection is just Meh!

  12. The only possible use I can think of for the check glitters is in wonderfully intricate placement manis for those WAY patient folks.

  13. I'm In The Moon For Love reminds me of Plugged In Plum, but I'm not sure if that's what you were thinking of.

  14. Give Me Space looks gorgeousčśŹ But I agree with you, this collection seems too shiny and metallic for me.

  15. Usually OPI bores me with too many reds, this collection is too many silvers and metallics. I do like Cosmo Wiya Twist and Let Your Love Shine. Wish they would stop with opaque metallics with glitter.
