Zoya Winter 2015 Matte Velvet Collection Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Hope you all had a nice weekend, and great Christmas if you celebrate it! Mine was pretty good, it was nice to have a long weekend! Today I have the Winter 2015 Matte Velvet Collection from Zoya to share with you. I was pretty exciting when I saw that Zoya was doing more Matte Velvet polishes. Their first collection of them were some of the first Zoya's I ever bought and are still some of my favorites from them. Check out the swatches after the jump!

Amal is crimson red matte. This has red shimmer in it, you can see the shimmer nicely when its matte but it really comes out with a shiny top coat. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and the opacity was great. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Below is Amal with top coat!

Aspen is a white matte with white shimmer. The formula was ok, I found it to be on the thick and patchy side so its best to apply it in thin coats and with some patience. I used 3 coats for the photos below. This one actually looks pretty much the same with and without top coat so there is no top coat photo for this shade.

Honor is an emerald green matte with emerald shimmer. This is another that looks good matte but even better with top coat. The formula was good, it was a good consistency and easy to apply with really nice opacity. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Below is Honor with top coat.

Iris is an amethyst purple matte with red and purple shimmer. The formula was good, it was easy to work with and had good opacity. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Below is Iris with top coat

Sue is a champagne gold matte with light golden shimmer. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and I had no issues with it being patchy (which I was worried about, due to how light it is). I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Below is Sue with top coat.

Yves is a sapphire blue matte with blue shimmer. This is my favorite of the collection, its pretty when it dries down matte and really comes to life with a coat of top coat. The formula was a little difficult, I found it hard to control. I also had some staining with this so you'll want to use a couple coats of base coat with it. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

The Zoya Winter 2015 Matte Velvet Collection is available at, each polish retails for $10. They also sell a Matte Velvet Top Coat, I haven't tried it but it might help with the wear on these since matte polishes are notorious for chipping quickly.

  1. I like all of them a ton. Great swatches.

  2. I got all the jewel color polishes from this. Aspen and Sue were an easy pass for me.

But I found Honor to be a worse Stainer than Yves (which also stained) it was horrid what they both did to my nails the first time I used them.

And my bottle of Iris has the same consistency you described your Aspen to have. I LOVE it but I find it so difficult to work with. But I was SO excited to finally see your reviews!!!! Yours are the prettiest!

  3. Thats a bummer about Honor, I was surprised I didn't have any staining with it.

  4. Sea green looks so beautiful love zoya nail polishes :)

  5. I think this collection is great!

  6. I had the worst staining with Yves than I think I have had with any polish before! I wore it with base coat for fewer than 24 hours a week or so ago and still have some blue staining on my nails. That was a real bummer because I really liked it otherwise. The other shades are nice, though. I've find myself reaching for Aspen a lot more than I would have guessed given the formula issues. I

  7. That is such a bummer :( I was able to get the staining off using Orly Cutique right when I removed the polish. Its so pretty but man...the staining sucks

  8. I've never had staining issues before other than with Dagmara but these 2 are evil lol

But 2 coats of base work. They are too pretty NOT to wear!

  9. Honor was a stainer for me too! My toe nails are still yellow. :/

  10. Get a polar block from Sally's :)

    99 cents, does the trick!

  11. Try a Polar Block :) that's what I got for my nails. and I saw some people get something called bubble white. both can be found at Sally's
