First Impression Friday: Bear Pawlish

Happy Friday! Today for First Impression Friday I have some goodies from Bear Pawlish to share with you.  Bear Pawlish has been on my radar for a while, they were one of those brands that I always seemed to miss a restock on for the longest time. I finally wandered over there one day and found stuff in stock so I bought a few polishes that caught my eye!

It looks like the Bear Pawlish is having a restock today so I suggest you head on over and grab what you want while its there. Since the website is in maintenance mode as I type this I can't tell you if the polishes I picked up are still in stock or not, unfortunately. I placed my order on January 11th and everything arrived to me on January 19th, I believe there was a weekend in there so the turn around time was great! The polishes arrived in a fun pink bubble mailer and the polishes were bubbled wrapped. There was a copy of my invoice in the package buy no business card, which was a bummer...I always like getting business cards because I hold onto them.

Check out everything I got after the jump!

Buried In The Garden is a brown base with a nice holo and multichrome flakies. This one was in the last chance section when I got it so I doubt its still available, which is a shame because its freaking gorgeous! I love a good brown polish, and boy does this one hit the spot! The formula was good, it was a nice consistency and easy to apply with good opacity. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Clever Boy is a blue holo. I was a bit disappointed by this one. The swatch that was in the listing on the Bear Pawlish site made it look more cobalt blue and in reality its not really cobalt at all. I did google before buying but the color was so all over the place that it was kind of a crapshoot. I do still like the color, its just not what I thought I was buying. The formula for Clever Boy was fantastic, it was a perfect consistency and an easy 1 coater. I did do 2 coats for my swatch to see if it intensified the holo but it didn't make a difference. This dried down a bit dull so I used top coat for my photos.

Also wanted to mention that I did have staining with this so I would suggest a couple coats of base coat.

For reference the photo below was the photo on the Bear Pawlish site when I purchased, not sure if its just the difference in lighting or a batch issue.

The Night Before is a blue subtle holo with iridescent glitter mixed in. I like the depth the glitter gives this, it doesn't stand out a ton unless you're in the shade but its there just enough in the sun to see there is something special going on. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and had great opacity. There is some texture from the glitter when the polish dries down but it was smooth for me with 2 coats of top coat. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

Overall I will most likely buy from Bear Pawlish again, even though Clever Boy ended up being somewhat disappointing the other 2 I picked up made up for that. I did want to mention that I didn't love the brush in these polishes, it was kind of stubby, it did give good control for applying polish but it just wasn't my favorite.

Bear Pawlish is available at

  1. I bought The Night Before as well. I really dislike the stubby brush so I'm not sure I would buy again. That first polish is so pretty though!

  2. I agree--hate their brushes. They do make beautiful polish, though.

Ooohh, Buried In The Garden is so gorgeous!!
I hate it when you get a polish that doesn't look like the photo. I have started googling the polish I want and if any photos show it looking like a polish I wouldn't really want, then I know that's most likely the way it'll actually end up!

  4. wow, those look like two completely different polishes

  5. Buried in the Garden is stunning! Also, I'm guessing Clever Boy is a Dr Who reference which makes it a pretty great TARDIS blue.

  6. Not sure if its a Dr. Who reference or not but it definitely says "cobalt" in the listing and looks cobalt in the swatch photo on their site :/

  7. Do you know if Bear Polishes are 5 free or vegan?

No idea, you'd have to check with the maker about that :)

  9. I have also had this brand on my radar for awhile...would it be possible to see a shot of the brush since there are additional comments about not liking it?

there is a shot on this blog:

Doesn't really convey how stubby it is though, its considerably shorter than a typical brush

  11. That brown is fantastic. I had sort of just an okay experience with Bear pawlish. The polishes were okay but not as vibrant as pictured and very thin formulas, at least on my bottles.
