First Impression Friday: Starrily

Happy Friday! Anyone have fun plans for the long weekend if you're in the US? I'm planning on organizing my nail room and getting stuff together for a destash. I've been planning on that since February then life went crazy and it fell to the back burner...until now!

This week for First Impression Friday I have a couple polishes from Starrily to share with you. This is more like a second impression I guess? I picked up a Starrily in my first Live Love Polish order that was featured in a first impression post a while back. These 2 polishes I bought directly form the brand. Starrily was on my need to try list for a long time but I had always heard about how slow their shipping was so I never bought. I guess I finally wanted to see for myself if the shipping really was slow, spoiler alert...it wasn't.

I placed my order on 1/26/16 and everything arrived on 1/30/16! The polishes were shipped in a small box and wrapped in bubble wrap and tissue paper that was sealed with a cute little thank you sticker. There was also a business card and a copy of my order.  Check out what I got after the jump!

Goodnight Moon is a blue jelly with gold holo stars, gold moons, gold circle and small gold hex glitter. I love this in the bottle but I kind of hate this on the nail. Maybe layered over a base color I'd like this more but it just didn't doing anything for me on its own. The formula was good, it was a little thick because of the amount of glitter but I found it easy to apply. The stars and moons were a little tricky to get it and required some glitter fishing...there are a lot in there so its not that hard to fish them out. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

Shade

Vladimir is a dark purple holo. I do like this but it really is not anything like I expected it to be based on the swatch photos on the Starrily site. I believe they use the same swatcher as Live Love Polish, and while the photos are gorgeous they are incredibly inaccurate (in my opinion). This legit doesn't even look like the same polish, I've included the photo from the Starrily site so you can see what I mean.  The formula was really nice, it had a good consistency and great opacity. This is an easy 1 coater, I did 2 to see if maybe that would get me the color the website showed but it didn't make a difference. This dried down matte so you'll want to top coat it to bring it to life. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

WAT

Overall, I was impressed with how fast the shipping was but I don't think I'll be buying from Starrily again. I feel like no matter what I get it won't measure up to how its depicted on their site. Call me crazy if you want but I like to receive polish that actually resembles what I purchased based on swatch photos on the makers website. I get that there can be batch differences, but when its as drastic as it is with Vladimir it turns me off of the brand.

  4. The Vladimir is a lovely color just as it is in your swatch. That inaccurate swatch does nothing to help it, all it does is disappoint people. This is why I read nail blogs (like yours!), because I know from sad experience that the swatches on retailer sites are not always how it looks under everyday conditions. Thanks!

  5. I hate misleading swatch photos. That's why I read your blog and Valesha at Peachy Polish. And I loved your "WAT"

  6. I dont't mind this glitter, but I really LOVE this purple holo!
I hate it when there's a huge difference between the official swatch pictures and the actual colors. I get it that some colors are tricky to photograph (some blues and purples), which is so not the case with this holo! Anyway, awesome swatches!
    Kisses from Brazil!

  7. YES. those swatches that have been over-lit and then over-photoshopped so the swatcher's knuckles aren't even there kinda creep me out, but more importantly, have nothing to do with reality. makes me crazy, and in fact, fakey swatch pics are why i started blogging my own stash in the first place. like a lot of other people have said, your pics & words are always really helpful!

  8. I've already learned (the hard way!) to distrust swatches with glowing airbrushed skin.
Ordered several Starrilys recently and my bottle of Bite Marks looks so differently from swatch!! It actually looks a different color group - official swatch makes it look dark brown, and looking at the polish I see it as a very deep dark red. But I'm super wowed with the color (and with all 3 Starrilys I own), so I'll definitely order again. Luckily, there are more swatches on Instagram - some of them true to life.

Legitimately or Literally? There is a difference! I like what I have gotten from Starrily. She even made me a custom polish that was like the blue one only in purple, to honor Prince. I thought that was very nice. Don't give up on her!

  11. Vladimir looked really close to the swatch on me, I am a darker skin tone though
