First Impression Friday: Doctor Lacquer

Happy Friday! Anyone have fun plans for this weekend? I sure don't, now that my kitchen is done I have nothing I really need to do...I'm looking forward to relaxing a bit! This week for First Impression Friday I have a few polishes from Doctor Lacquer to share with you!

I found out about this brand in a Facebook brand and was drawn in mostly by their thermals, they have some really pretty color combos. Aside from thermals they also  have a few other nice finishes so I decided to pick up 3 different finishes to get a good feel for the brand.

I placed my order on 7/2/16 and I received it on 7/8/16, so the turn around was pretty good. I ordered during a sale and a holiday weekend so I was impressed with how fast these got to me. The polishes arrived in a bubble mailer and wrapped in bubble wrap so they were nice and protected. Doctor Lacquer offers a couple different sizes of polishes, I decided to buy minis just for the heck of it. The brushes in the minis was nice and easy to apply which I was happy about, I wouldn't hesitate to buy minis again.

Betalain is a pink toned purple holo. The holo is nice and strong, especially out in the sun! The formula was ok, it was a good consistency but pretty sheer which I was surprised by. I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Cartwheel is a green/teal thermal. I really like this color combo, its interesting and I love how the shimmer carries through nicely with both of the colors it shifts to. The formula was good, it was easy to apply but again a little sheer. I think you could get away with 2 coats but I did 3 since it can shift to such a light color. This dried down satin so I used top coat for my swatches.

Diopside is a green holo with a strong gold shimmer. This one while I like it was a big disappointment for me, the color isn't what I expected. I was sold on this one by several swatches, but mostly thanks to Amy aka McPolish aka Polish Etc. You can see her post with this polish here, her swatches are always accurate so I don't think its a photo/lighting thing (plus there are other swatches that look the same as hers from other people). My polish is way lighter and more on the lime side of green than I was expecting it to be. Like I said, I do like the polish but its not what I thought I was getting. The formula was ok, it was a good consistency and easy to apply but sheer. I used 3 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

Overall I will probably buy from Doctor Lacquer again but the issue with Diopside being so different does put me off a little bit. You can buy Doctor Lacquer at, it looks like she's closed right now but should be back in September!

  1. I have both Diopside and Cartwheel as well. I think your swatches are color accurate.

Wow, your Diopside is dramatically different than all the other swatches! I'd be disappointed too. Did you contact her about it?

  3. These are so pretty - I especially like the thermal.

  4. No, I should have but I just got so busy that I never got around to it :/

I also like the option of a smaller size. And really like that thermal! Was that a natural progression of color or did you dip your finger tips in cold water? I love thermals but always hesitate because I don't know how easily they change. My nails are your length or a bit longer.

  6. it was natural, I've been having issues with thermals only changing when I dip my fingers in water but this one was great and didn't need that!

Great! I'll definitely give the thermals a try!

  8. Dang. Your Diopside is much different. I know how much you love green polishes, so I figured this would be one you chose from this brand. Too bad your bottle was so different. I really do like her smaller sized bottles. Not exactly a mini and still gives you plenty of polish to work with.
