Indies Outside The Box: Fan-tastic Customs Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Today I have a brand new collaboration box to share with you! This box is called Indies Outside The Box and its a bit different than any other collaboration box I've seen. This box features Top Shelf Lacquer and Lollipop Posse Lacquer as the main brands, and each box will have 2 guest brands. This box is different because each polish in the box is fan-created! There is a Facebook group for this box (linked at the end of the post) where each quarter photos are submitted for the makers to draw inspiration from. The images are voted on by the group and the winning image for each brand is what the polish is based on!

This box will be available in limited quantities this weekend at Polish Con and the regular pre-order will begin on Monday the 19th of September. Check out the swatches after the jump!

First up is Digital Nails Tidal Twilight, below is the photo their polish was inspired by.

Digital Nails Tidal Twilight is a dark purple leaning indigo with indigo flakes of glitter, holographic micro glitter and a soft linear holo. Raphaelle from Digital Nails took the deepest part of the sky from the inspiration photo for this polish! The formula of Tidal Twilight was good, it was a really nice consistency and applied like a dream. The opacity was also great, I used 2 coats for my photos.

Next up is Ellagee Halcyon Seas, below is the inspiration photo.

Ellagee Halcyon Seas is a clear based glitter with metallic and holographic micro glitter in aqua, blue, periwinkle and copper. There are also copper/red flakes and blue shimmer. I love how Laura from Ellagee interpreted the inspiration photo, she really captured every color from the photo and I love the way it came together in polish form. Because this is a clear based glitter you can wear it as a topper or on its own, it looks good either way. The formula was good, it was on the thick side but application was easy. For full opacity on its own I used 3 coats plus top coat to smooth it out.

Next is Lollipop Posse Lacquer Meet Me In Outer Space, below is the inspiration photo.

Lollipop Posse Lacquer Meet Me In Outer Space is a pink creme with blue and aqua shimmer along with blue micro flakes of glitter. I think Karen from Lollipop Posse Lacquer beautifully captured this photo also, especially with the way the blue flakes stand out against the pink base. The contrast between the two is really nice and very easy to see. The formula was fantastic, it was a little thick in a good way and it had perfect opacity. This was nearly a 1 coater for me! I did end up using 2 coats but you may not need to depending on your application. This dried with a tiny bit of texture so you'll want to top coat it to bring it to life!

Last but not least is Top Shelf Lacquer Mermaid Water Cocktail, below is the inspiration photo.

Top Shelf Lacquer Mermaid Water Cocktail is an aqua blue crelly with pink and green glass fleck shimmer. Overall this is my personal favorite of the box (though all 4 are gorgeous!), I just love the way the glass fleck plays with the aqua base. The formula was good, it was a good consistency and easy to apply. It is a bit sheer due to the jelly base but it builds easily. This dries down dull and top coat really brings it to life. I used 3 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

The Indies Outside The Box: Fan-tastic Customs Box retails for $45 and it will be available for Pre-order from September 17th to September 26th on the Top Shelf Lacquer site located here: http://topshelflacquer.com/. Boxes are set to ship out by October 8th. To join the Facebook group for this box so you can help decide future boxes you can join here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/indiesoutsidethebox/

If you will be at Polish Con Chicago this weekend there will be 15 boxes available there, so you can get your paws on these a little early!
