First Impression Friday: Live.Love.Polish

Happy Friday! Anyone have fun plans this weekend? I'm headed up to LA to go to Generation Beauty this weekend, I'm sure it'll be a great time! Today for First Impression Friday it's a little bit different, I'm trying 3 new to me brands from a new to me shop. You will see at least 1 First Impression Friday on another one of these brands in the future since I purchased from their own shop also.

The shop I tried out for the first time was Live.Love.Polish, they carry several brands both indies and mainstream brands. I've heard about them a lot of the last year-ish and went over to their site to buy the UNT Peel Off Base Coat, which unfortunately was out of stock at the time so I didn't get it, but I'll probably pick it up late.  I decided to peek at the brands they carry that I've never tried and ended up buying 3 polishes.

I placed my order on 1/1/16 and it arrived to me on 1/9/16, the turn around time was a tiny bit longer than started on their website but I'm guessing that it was because it was a holiday weekend. The polishes arrived in a small box and were wrapped  beautifully inside the box. Each polish was in its own bubble wrap bag then wrapped in tissue paper and tied with a ribbon. There was also a thank you note tucked in and a copy of my order. I think its really nice when shops/brands go above and beyond with packaging like this, I know some people don't care but its a nice touch.

Check out the polishes I picked up after the jump!

First Impression Friday: Baroness X

Happy Friday! Today for First Impression Friday I have some Baroness X goodies to share with you! Baroness X has been on my to-try list since I first saw their Matte Cuticle Balm being talked about. Baroness X also makes great polishes along with other balms, cuticle oils and mani fizzies. I ended up buying 1 regular polish, a mystery box that came with 2 full sized polishes and the matte cuticle balm. To my surprise when I opened the package the maker had also included an extra polish which was super nice and totally unexpected.

I placed my order on 1/1 and received my order on 1/8. Everything came bubble wrapped inside of a small cardboard box. I have to mention also that Demi (the maker) actually emailed me the day before these shipped apologizing for not getting them out sooner. Talk about fantastic customer service, I thought her shipping was on point considering it was a holiday weekend so if it was what she felt the need to apologize for I imagine her normal shipping is insanely quick!

Check out everything I picked up after the jump!

Before I get into the swatches I wanted to show you guys the tops of the bottles. The caps have a little  domed piece of glass with a swatch of the polish. This is such a fantastic idea (and really nicely executed also). It will make finding these in your storage extremely easy.

Ammil is a blue to purple multi chrome with a scattered holo. This polish was included in the mystery box. The formula was really nice, it was sheer but buildable and easy to apply. You could put this over a black or purple base to save you a coat of polish but its not necessary. I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Shade

Kushy Gig is an olive green with a subtle holo and pink to orange shifting shimmer. This was the polish I picked out, no one is surprised I'm sure. It was actually really hard to narrow down the several polishes I had in my cart but this one is just such a Jen color that I had to buy it. The formula was good, it was easy to apply and had good opacity. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Quick note about this one, this polish had a different brush than the others in this post. I believe Baroness X is in the process of switching out brushes and this one had one of the new wider brushes. It was reminiscent of the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure brush. I loved it but I know not everyone is crazy about wide brushes so I wanted to mention it :)

Maril'd is a blue to purple multi chrome with green flakies. This was the super nice extra that was included in my order. Its a mini size which I am normally not a fan of but this was possibly the best mini I've ever used. It's tall and skinny and has the same brush as the full sized bottles, if you are normally not a mini fan either you might like this one like I do. The formula was good, it was a good consistency and easy to apply. It was sheer but easily buildable. I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Shade

Sunset Blvd. is yellow, green, purple and pink neon glitter in a slightly pink tinted base. I believe this is also black light reactive but I still don't own a black light so I can't show that :(  The formula was good, it was nice and glitter dense. I used 2 coats plus top coat over Pretty Serious Presence for the photos below. Both photos are in the shade.

Last up is the Matte Cuticle Balm, I got this in the peppermint scent. I've heard from other people that the pistachio macaroon scent is pretty awesome also. This balm is meant to be a low sheen balm that sinks in quickly and is good if you are taking photos of your nails or if you just like a more natural non-shiny look to your fingers while still keeping your cuticles moisturized. This balm is also offered in a vegan version free of beeswax for those that are conscious of that, I think its great that she gives that option.

I really like this balm, it sinks in a lot quicker than other balms I own and does a great job moisturizing. I know it will probably be a staple for me while I swatch.

Overall I like everything I picked up and I have a few more Baroness X polishes on my list to buy in the future.

Baroness X can be found at http://baronessx.com

First Impression Friday: Top Shelf Lacquer

Happy Friday! Anyone have fun plans for this weekend? I do! I'm getting a brand new dishwasher tomorrow. The dishwasher I currently have is super old and my parents handyman who fixed up a bunch of stuff in my place before I moved in told me it leaked, so its been on my list of things to replace.I'm excited to finally get that done! Slowly but surely my condo is becoming what I envisioned when I bought it!

Today for First Impression Friday I have Top Shelf Lacquer to share with you. I can't remember where I first heard about this brand but they've been on my to buy from list for a while. All of the polishes from Top Shelf have cocktail inspired names which is really fun.It looks like all of the polishes are available in both full and mini size, so if you like minis you can save a few bucks that way!

I placed my order on January 1st, during a sale, and received the polishes on January 6th. I was expecting shipping to be a little longer due to ordering while they were having a sale so that was a great surprise. The polishes came bubble wrapped and packed in a cloth bag with some candy (yum). There was also a nice thank you note, business card and a cute pair of earrings glass charms. Everything was inside of a bubble mailer. I really liked the cloth bag that the polishes were in, I've already re-purposed it as a camera battery charger holder to hang next to my lightbox (one of my 2016 resolutions was to stop losing my battery chargers lol).

Check out the swatches after the jump!

Essie Starry Starry Night Swatch & Review

Hi guys! Today I have Starry Starry Night from Essie to share with you. This is the new version, not the older more sought after version (sadly I don't own that one). Recently Essie released their Retro Revival Collection which brought back 6 of Essie's "iconic" shades. Everyone pretty much lost their mind when Starry Starry Night was announced as one of the 6 shades. For as long as I can remember SSN has been one of the more HTF polishes going for big bucks on eBay. People have been asking Essie to bring it back for years.

Unfortunately this new version isn't really even comparable to the original. The new version is a different shade of blue and lacks the same type of glitter. The glitter in the original SSN was smaller and included "diamond dust" which gave a ton of dimension to the polish, the new version just has one size of silver glitter and its a bit on the sparse side when applied on the nail. While the new version of Starry Starry Night is pretty its kind of ridiculous for Essie to release this saying they brought back the original. If you want to see a comparison of the original with the new version check out this post from Pointless Cafe. If you're looking for polishes a bit closer to what Starry Starry Night originally was I'd recommend KBShimmer Carpe Denim (larger glitters but gives a similar feel to the original SSN) or Colors by Llarowe Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Pointless Cafe also shows comparisons of those 2 polishes with the original Starry Starry Night.

The formula of the new Starry Starry Night wasn't the greatest. It was a little bit thick and almost gooey, especially on the second coat. The first coat went on streaky but it was opaque for me on the second coat due to the thickness of the polish. I usually don't talk about wear time on my blog since I don't wear stuff long enough for it to chip but this chipped on me on the first full day of wear, which was a bummer. I used 2 coats plus top coat for the photos below.

Overall the new version of Starry Starry Night is pretty but if you are planning on buying it to finally cross Starry Starry Night off your wish list you will be disappointed. The new version of Starry Starry Night and the rest of the Retro Revival Collection is available now at drugstores and Ulta. Price varies depending on where you buy.

First Impression Friday: Rica

Happy Friday! I'm starting out a new series on the blog this week called First Impression Friday. I've had a lot of indie brands on my "need to try" list for a long time so I decided to start going through the list and trying out all the brands. This series is going to be my first impression of the shop, I'll let you know my experience with shipping and packaging, customer service (if applicable) etc.  I don't know if this will be a weekly series or not, it will pretty much depend on how shopping crazy I go and when things arrive at my house.

If there are any brands you think I should try please leave them in the comment section! I already have a big list but there are so many brands out there now that its hard to keep track!

The first brand up is Rica! Rica has been on my list for ages, mostly because I've heard good things from people about their Glossy Glam top coat. In addition to their top coat they also sell nail vinyls, regular polish, stamping polish, nail charms and hand/body products like sugar scrubs and cuticle oils.Check out all my thoughts after the jump!

Powder Perfect Color4Nails Exclusive Duo Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Today I have a couple polishes from Powder Perfect to share with you. These polishes are exclusive to Color4Nails. Both of these can be worn on their own or as toppers, I really like them on their own!

First up is Endless Childhood, a super holo silver base loaded with copper to green multi chrome flakies. I really love this polish, I wore it for a week and contemplated putting it back on again after it started chipping. The formula was good, you get nice flakie payoff and the opacity was good. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Shade

Never Grow Up is a strong silver holo loaded with purple to blue multi chrome flakies. The formula was really nice on this polish also, very easy to apply with good opacity and good flakie payoff. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Shade

Both polishes are available only from Color4Nails.com, each retails for $13.

Nine Zero Lacquer January 2016 Swatch & Review

Hi guys! Today I have the very first monthly polish from Nine Zero to share with you! I always love monthlies so I was excited when Jess said that she would be doing them! January 2016 is a deep berry holo. The holo is nice and strong, I can even see it in the crappy lighting at work. I would recommend looking at swatches of this from different bloggers so you can get a good feel for it. Its a bit of a chameleon and looks a little different in all of the photos I've seen depending on lighting and whatnot.

The formula was good, it was easy to apply and had really nice opacity. I used 2 coats for the photos below.  Please excuse the shadow in the second photo. Its been rainy where I live so when the sun popped out for a minute the other day I hauled my butt outside to snap a few photos :)

January 2016 is available at http://www.ninezerolacquer.com/ for $9.50, it will only be available in the month of January so go get it while you can!

Serum No. 5 January 2016 Swatch & Review

Hi guys! Hope you all had a nice weekend! Mine was good, bummed its over though. It always sucks going back to work after a nice long weekend. Today I have January 2016 from Serum No. 5 to share with you. I was excited when this showed up in the mail because I wasn't sure if Serum would still be doing monthlies or not.

January 2016 is a deep plum with a blue shimmer and coppery flakes of glitter. This also glows indigo in the dark. The formula was good, it was a good consistency but a little on the sheer side. It was easy to build up though and depending on how you apply polish it will either be a 2 or 3 coater. I used 3 coats plus top coat for the photos below. Glow in the dark polishes tend to dry with a little bit of texture from the glow pigment but its completely smooth with a coat of top coat.

January 2016 is available at SerumNo5.com, it is only available for the month of January and retails for $13
